Bochum – Gladbach tip
On Saturday afternoon, the NRW duel between two struggling traditional clubs will take place at the best Bundesliga kick-off time.
Both the host VfL and the visiting Foals are still waiting for their first win of the season. Excitement is guaranteed at the Ruhrstadion!
My Bochum Gladbach betting tip explains why we can expect a competitive, but high-scoring match, for which a combined bet is particularly suitable.
After five matchdays, Bochum stand with three points but still without a win, while two harsh away defeats literally spoil their record.
The 0:5 in Stuttgart and the 0:7 in Munich on the last matchday mean that VfL have the weakest defence in the league with 16 goals conceded (Darmstadt also 16) – never before have the Blues conceded so many goals in the first five BL games of the season.
The 0:7 at FC Bayern marks the shared highest Bundesliga defeat in the club’s history (0:7 also in September 2021 and August 2022 against the Munich side).
The betting companies’ forecast?
The sports betting providers are apparently assuming an extremely difficult match to predict! The home side from Bochum are only slightly favoured in the classic three-way bets with high odds around 2.35.
A win for the visitors from Mönchengladbach, meanwhile, is traded at odds of around 2.79, while a draw is priced at values around 3.75 despite the high odds of victory in each case.
Analysis: Bochum vs Gladbach
Bochum are currently much stronger at home. Two of their three draws so far have been at home in the Ruhrstadion, where they are unbeaten for five BL home games (two wins, three draws).
This is the longest such streak of the Bochum team under coach Thomas Letsch. Incidentally, the last VfL coach to go longer without a BL home defeat was Marcel Koller from 2007 to 2008 (ten games).
Despite the recent debacle at the Allianz Arena, the courageous performances in the points draws against BVB (1-1), Augsburg (2-2) and Frankfurt (1-1) give cause for hope!
The direct statistics against the Gladbach team also give reason for hope.
Even though Bochum lost three of their last four Bundesliga encounters with Borussia Mönchengladbach (one win), they had previously remained unbeaten in 15 direct duels (eight wins and seven draws).
In total, the Ruhrpottler won 20 times against BMG (21 draws and 27 defeats) – only against Eintracht Frankfurt (25) did VfL celebrate more victories in the Bundesliga than against Mönchengladbach!
Not exactly in Bochum’s favour, however, is the fact that they have only been in the lead for 43 minutes this Bundesliga season – less often than any other team in the first five matchdays.
Gladbach have also only been in the lead for 60 minutes so far, which is only beaten by Bochum and 1. FC Köln (58).
Quote analysis
The match between Bochum and the Foals offers a whole range of promising betting opportunities. In view of the many options, it was even difficult for me to decide on a Bochum Gladbach tip!
One idea would be to bet on the home side taking the lead (lucrative odds around 1.88).
Another combination betting option would be to combine the double chance 1X with the event “both teams score”. At the new bookies of DAZN Bet, this combination is listed with odds of 2.10.
Furthermore, you could consider betting on goals from Bochum’s counter-attacking demon Takuma Asano (2.75) or Gladbach’s Tomáš Čvančara (2.60).
In the case of the latter, however, it is advisable to wait and see whether he will make it into the starting eleven on Saturday. The Czech, who has already scored three league goals, has been suffering from a thigh contusion with haemorrhage.
Historical crisis in Gladbach!
Borussia from Mönchengladbach are currently in a historic crisis of form!
With only two points after five games, BMG is playing its third weakest Bundesliga season – only in 1991/92 (1) and 2015/16 (0) did Borussia have fewer points than in the current season.
The current crisis is accentuated by a formidable away weakness! BMG have won only one of their past 21 Bundesliga away games (11 draws and nine defeats). No team has won fewer away games than Borussia in the same period (excluding promotion and relegation).
Gladbach have waited 10 Bundesliga away games for a win – longer last between February 2007 and October 2008 (11).
Gladbach: morale, strong offence & desolate defence
However, Gladbach have already shown morale several times in the young season.
For example, when they tied the score at 4:4 in the 90+7th minute in the spectacular opener against Augsburg or held the visiting Bavarians at 1-1 almost until the end of the match on Matchday 3.
The point gained after trailing 0:3 in Darmstadt can also be chalked up in this category.
These unusual final scores ensure that BMG currently scores the most goals per away match with an average of 3.5.
However, only the upcoming opponents from Bochum (4.7) also concede more goals per away match than the Foals (3.5).
Borussia are therefore the first team in Bundesliga history with at least seven goals scored and seven conceded in the first two away games of a season!
Meanwhile, a bon mot for the statistics nerds among us speaks against the Foals.
In the current season, BMG have allowed an average of 18.5 opponent passes outside their own third of the pitch per defensive action – that’s the highest in the league.
Bochum, on the other hand, have a PPDA value of 10.9 – only Mainz (10.6) and Frankfurt (10.8) are better in this category.
Not necessarily in favour of the Foals is the mixed record of coach Gerardo Seoane.
The Swiss is only the second Gladbach coach not to win any of his first five Bundesliga games with the Foals. Club-wide, Seoane has picked up just one win from his last 13 BL games (four draws and eight defeats)!
My tip: My Bochum Gladbach prediction is for a high-scoring clash between equals!
Accordingly, my betting recommendation is a combination bet that predicts that a total of more than 2.5 goals will be scored and that both teams will score at least once. DAZN Bet offers this combination with attractive odds of 1.81.
Both defensive lines are extremely vulnerable, while Gladbach’s offence in particular is one of the better ones in the league, having already scored eight goals. Bochum, for their part, are strong at home and will do everything they can to exacerbate the Foals’ crisis.
My Bochum Gladbach tip: Over 2.5 goals & both teams score!
