Gladbach – Werder Bremen betting tips

The 25th matchday of the 2022/23 Bundesliga season opens on Friday evening at Borussia-Park with the clash of two table neighbours who are level on points. Mönchengladbach and Werder each have 30 points on their account.

This means that both clubs are ten points behind the first European Cup place and ten points ahead of the relegation place 16. However, both teams are in a bit of a crisis.

Gladbach is one of the weakest teams in the league away from home. Recently, they suffered three defeats away from home with a total of 1:11 goals. At home, however, the Foals are still the seventh best team in the league.

And Werder have lost 10 of 16 games since the first leg against Borussia. Only TSG Hoffenheim (13) have suffered more defeats in that period. However, the SVW has the very best memories of the first encounter against Mönchengladbach.

Here, the Green-Whites celebrated their highest win of the season with a 5:1 victory at the Weserstadion. Daniel Farke’s men, on the other hand, will think of this game with horror and want to make amends in their second encounter with the promoted team.

The bookmakers also favour the home side. My Gladbach Werder Bremen bet at odds of 1.53 with Bwin is “Both teams will score”!

The betting provider’s forecast?

The Foals have picked up 23 of their 30 points at home this season. In addition, Werder have lost 5 of their last 6 away games. These facts naturally have an impact on the Gladbach Werder Bremen prediction.

So the home side are favoured on Friday night with average win odds of 1.92 from the point of view of the top bookmakers. But the bookies do not see the visitors as completely without a chance either.

An away win will be paid for with odds averaging 3.74.

Analysis: Gladbach vs Werder Bremen

The Gladbach side started strongly last Saturday as guests in Leipzig. The home side couldn’t find a way through against the 4-4-2 of the Foals for a long time. But Borussia missed too many chances.

The crux of the matter was the missed penalty by Alassane Plea. After that, RB became extremely dominant and took advantage of the individual mistakes of Farke’s team to win 3:0.

With 30 points from 24 games, Gladbach are three points better off than in the previous season. Nevertheless, the team is playing the second-weakest season since 2010/11, when they were only able to stay in the league in the relegation.

42 goals conceded mean an average of 1.75 goals per game. This is only slightly better than last season. Under Adi Hütter, Mönchengladbach conceded a total of 61 goals (average of 1.79).

Adding to this is an attack that is missing the best opportunities and has now waited three matches for a goal of its own. At the winter break, Marcus Thuram was joint second on the goalscoring list with Bremen’s Niclas Füllkrug with ten goals.

Since then, the Frenchman has only scored once. His strike partner Alassane Plea has even been waiting 582 minutes for a goal. The top scorer in recent weeks is Jonas Hofmann.

With two wins from nine games in the 2023 calendar year, the club is sinking into the grey mediocrity and must be careful not to slip even further. Against top teams, however, things run like clockwork at home.

Leipzig (3:0), Dortmund (4:2) and Bayern (3:2) have already been defeated at home. Against Werder, the injured Bensebaini, Jantschke and Weigl will be missing. Omlin, Olschowsky and Sippel, however, should be available again.

Quote analysis

The duels between Gladbach and Werder actually stand for many goals. On average, 3.2 goals were scored per match in this pairing. In addition, the ball has found the net 9 times on both sides in the last 10 competitive matches between the two teams at Borussia Park.

However, the Foals have currently been waiting for a goal for 3 league games. The bookmakers, most of whom offer PayPal for their payment transactions, are nevertheless confident that this series will end.

For example, there is a low average odds of 1.59 for more than 2 goals, and the “Yes” option in the “Both teams score” betting market even only gets an average of 1.54.

In their own stadium, Borussia last took a 1:0 lead against Werder in 10 league games in a row. If that also happens on Friday, Bwin will reward it with odds of 1.65.

The Foals are the favourite opponents of Werder attacker Niclas Füllkrug (4 goals, 2 assists). If the international also scores on matchday 25, Happybet offers odds of 2.65.

Bremen is far from saved

Surely Werder, as a promoted team, is currently fully on course in its mission to “stay in the class”. Bremen’s lead over the dangerous zone is still reassuring.

In addition, according to coach Ole Werner, the SVW played “really well” twice against FC Augsburg and Bayer Leverkusen. In the end, however, the Green-Whites still came off the pitch as losers in both cases.

Now the team has to be careful not to slip into the relegation battle. In the home match against Bayer, the coach had to do without players like Bittencourt, Friedl, Groß and Schmid.

As a result, Werner had to rebuild the three-man defensive chain for the fifth time in a row. In the end, the home side scored two goals against the Werkself, but they were not even enough for a point.

Too many mistakes – too many defeats

SV Werder make too many crucial mistakes, offensively and defensively. 46 goals conceded are currently the second weakest in the Bundesliga behind VfL Bochum.

In addition, Leverkusen were also more consistent offensively with their chances. Bremen have already lost 12 games this season. Only 4 teams lost more often in 2022/23.

Bremen will also face four teams from the current top five in the table – Freiburg, Bayern, Leipzig and Union Berlin – in the remainder of the season.

Against the Foals, only Agu and Mbom are certain to miss out. Schmid will definitely be available again. Whether it will be enough for Friedl, Groß and Bittencourt remains to be seen.

After 111 competitive matches, Borussia are narrowly ahead in the direct comparison against Werder with 45 to 41 victories. However, Bremen have not often had anything to gain in Mönchengladbach.

The Green-Whites have only taken all three points in 12 of their 56 visits to the Lower Rhine. The first leg this season at the Weserstadion went extremely clearly to the SVW with 5:1.

The home side had already led 3:0 after 13 minutes. That had been the Hanseatic League’s first win against Gladbach since August 2015. For their part, Borussia have already celebrated 31 home victories against Bremen.

Against no other opponent have there been more victories in their own stadium. Since October 2010 (1:4) and 10 home games, the Foals are unbeaten against SV Werder in front of their own fans.

My Gladbach Bremen tip:

Gladbach have often proved their home strength against top teams this season. Against Werder, the direct comparison also speaks quite clearly in favour of the Foals.

But Borussia could only win 3 of the last 7 home games. So I don’t play a result tip for this match. Instead, I expect the goal-less streak of the Farke eleven to come to an end.

And thanks to Niclas Füllkrug, Bremen should always be good for an away goal. My Gladbach Werder Bremen prediction is therefore: Both teams will score!
