Manchester City – RB Leipzig betting tip

RBL fans will no doubt be cursing their misfortune at having clashed so often with possibly the best team in Europe in recent years.

However, they can count themselves lucky that their fate does not depend on a successful performance at the Emirates Stadium. The ticket for the round of 16 has already been secured together with the Citizens.

Will the English team therefore take it easy? Meanwhile, my recently published Manchester City RB Leipzig betting tip provides an insight into what fans can expect on Wednesday and which soccer bets could pay off in particular:

However, even if the home side were to approach the game like an ordinary test match, it will still be no easy task for RBL to gain the upper hand. After all, Manchester City are unbeaten in 17 Champions League games.

In the history of the top flight, Manchester United are the only English team to have a longer streak of this kind (25 games between September 2007 and May 2009).

And even if I don’t believe in a win for the visitors at the Etihad on matchday 5, I’m still expecting a respectable performance from the Saxons in my Manchester City RB Leipzig betting tip.

The bookmakers’ forecast

Interwetten sports betting, like all other providers, is characterized by offering Manchester City RB Leipzig betting odds that pay out around 1.25 for a home win.

On the other hand, there is a win factor of around 5.50 and 8.00 for a draw and an away win for the Bundesliga club respectively, which some experts consider to be hopeless.

Analysis: Manchester City vs RB Leipzig

ManCity only had to play perhaps the toughest game of the season last Saturday. The visitors were second-placed Liverpool, who were breathing down the Citizens’ necks just one point behind.

This can be seen as an advantage for the Red Bulls. Apart from the fact that much of the attention was on the Reds, the Citizens would do well not to get too carried away against the Bundesliga side.

After all, just a few days after what they saw as a completely insignificant Champions League match, the next “final opponent” awaits Pep Guardiola’s eleven in the Premier League: Tottenham Hotspur.

RB Leipzig will probably not be in contention for the Bundesliga title this year either, as a small gap has already opened up between them and the leading duo of Bayern and Bayer.

Meanwhile, the loss of Timo Werner, who is likely to be sidelined for several weeks again due to adductor problems, is annoying from Leipzig’s point of view.

Nevertheless, I expect the Saxons to use the experience they have gained on the international stage in recent years to sell themselves more expensively against ManCity this time than on their last visit, which I will take a closer look at in a moment

Quota analysis

It’s a bit like Bayern’s game against Copenhagen: the fact that they are already certain to progress from the group stage could tempt the heavy favorites to take a more relaxed approach to the game.

Consequently, an away win with a handicap of +2 at odds of 2.30 is probably the more interesting option for me when it comes to the outcome of the game itself.

However, my favorite bet remains a “both teams score” tip at around 1.75. This is because the English have only been able to keep a clean sheet in 25% of their games this Champions League season (1 in 4).

The numbers clearly favor the Citizens

This will be the Citizens’ sixth Champions League game against RB Leipzig, winning three of the previous five (1 draw, 1 defeat).

On home soil, meanwhile, they have won 6-3 (September 2021) and 7-0 (March 2023).

RBL, on the other hand, have lost their last four England outings in this competition by a combined score of 3-20.

The last visit to the Etihad …

The last meeting between Manchester City and RB Leipzig at the Etihad Stadium ended in a historic 7-0 win for the home side (March 2023).

This remains Pep Guardiola’s highest victory in a Champions League match and the Citizens’ most emphatic triumph in a European competition since another 7-0 win over FC Schalke 04 in March 2019.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has scored more goals against RB Leipzig than against any other team in his club career. In seven appearances, he netted a total of 11 times.

RB Leipzig are also the only team the Norwegian has scored five goals against in a single game in his club career, and that came in the aforementioned 7-0 win in March this year.

It remains to be seen whether David Raum will be part of the German squad that will represent the DFB at Euro 2024 next summer. The fact is, however, that the Leipzig player is an indispensable element of his team’s success.

No player has created more goalscoring opportunities in the current Champions League season than David Raum (15). He also has the highest expected assist rate in this competition (2.1 xA and two assists).

My tip:

As with the last direct encounter, I expect a similar result in the new edition at the Etihad as a few weeks ago in Leipzig (1:3).

Although I don’t expect Erling Haaland to fail to score against his favorite opponent, on the whole RB Leipzig could come very close to winning a point.

After all, the Citizens have to pay attention to the tight English soccer calendar and take into account that after this, from their point of view, insignificant group game, the red-hot Spurs await in the Premier League.

My Manchester City RB Leipzig betting tip is therefore: Both teams meet
