What does the NFL schedule for the 2023/24 regular season look like?

All games including the International Games with the two NFL Frankfurt Games, the games on Thanksgiving and Christmas and the explanation of the NFL schedule composition

NFL Schedule 2023 for Week 12:

The 12th game day on the 2023 NFL schedule falls on the famous Thanksgiving weekend and has several cracker games to offer to match this holiday!

On Thursday, right on Thanksgiving, three games are scheduled – and these are also three divisional thrillers:

The NFC North duel between the two arch-enemies Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers kicks things off. This will be followed by the Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Commanders clash between two NFC East division rivals and on Friday night two teams from the NFC West will meet in the Seattle Seahawks vs. SF 49ers.

Friday then sees the first “Black Friday Game” in NFL history. The New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins will face each other. Two perennial rivals from the AFC East.

The 2023 NFL schedule continues in Week 12 on Sunday. And there are some top games here too. Among others, Houston Texans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (two teams from the AFC South Division) and Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cincinnati Bengals (AFC North rivals).

Then on Sunday night, the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs are in action at the Las Vegas Raiders and the Philadelphia Eagles are at home against the Buffalo Bills.

NFL schedule 2023/24 – all dates of the regular season

The 2023/24 NFL schedule begins on September 7 with Week 1. The final round of the NFL Regular Season schedule takes place on the weekend of January 4-7.

The start of the 2024 NFL Playoffs is scheduled for January 13-16. Three rounds are scheduled until the grand final.

The 2024 Super Bowl – the glamorous final game for the NFL championship – will take place on February 11 in Las Vegas.

NFL Schedule 2023 – Dates of the International Games

In the 2023/24 season, there will also be “International Games” again. Five in total – three in London (Great Britain) and two in Frankfurt (Germany). This means there will be more regular-season NFL games in Europe than ever before.

London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – the only purpose-built NFL stadium outside the USA – will once again host two international games when the Bills and Titans visit.

The Jaguars return to their home stadium, Wembley Stadium, as part of their multi-year commitment to the UK.

In Germany, two NFL games will take place in Frankfurt in 2023 – with the Kansas City Chiefs and the New England Patriots.

All International Games 2023 start at 15:30 German time.

NFL game schedule 2023 for Thanksgiving and Christmas

The annual tripleheader on Thanksgiving (November 23) will also involve some particularly big-name teams in 2023.

What’s more, there will be an additional Thanksgiving game on the 2023 NFL schedule!

So far, Black Friday has been known primarily for bargain shopping. But in 2023, the Friday the day after Thanksgiving will also go down in the history books as an NFL game day for the first time.

An NFL Black Friday Game will take place for the first time in 2023. This will take place on November 24, 2023 at 9 pm German time. It is: New York Jets vs. Miami Dolphins.

In the USA, the game will be broadcast live exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.

The mode for the 2023/24 NFL schedule

The NFL schedule for the 2023/24 season also consists of a total of 18 game days, with each team having one game off (“bye week”). This gives each team 17 games in the season.

This is how the NFL schedule with 17 games is created:

● The four teams from a division always play one home and one away game against each other ⇒ 6 games

● Each year, one team from a division plays all four teams from another division in its own conference. (In a three-year cycle, all divisions from a conference are played through) ⇒ 4 games

● According to a 4-year rotation principle, each team plays once against all four teams from another division of the other conference. Two games at home and two away. ⇒ 4 games

● In addition, the NFL schedule also includes games against teams from the same conference that finished in the same position in the standings the previous year – once at home and once away (except for the division that the team is already playing against based on the current NFL schedule). ⇒ 2 games

● The 17th game is a game against another team from the other conference that is in the same position in its division. The division that will be played against anyway is excluded, and there is also a rotation between the other divisions. ⇒ 1 game

This NFL schedule guarantees that all teams play every other team at least every four years and must play in every other team’s stadium at least every eight years.
