Tottenham – Liverpool Tip
The top match of matchday 7 in the Premier League takes place on Saturday evening between Tottenham and Liverpool.
Traditionally, both teams have belonged to the Beletage of the league for many years. This is also the case in this early season on the island.
After six match days, the fourth in the table now receives the second. Neither team has yet suffered a defeat.
On the one hand, the home side will of course be expecting a lot. Under Ange Postecoglu, they have started a PL season with seven unbeaten games for the third time in their club’s history.
But against the Reds, that is likely to be enormously difficult. They are unbeaten in 17 games. In addition, they have lost only one of the last 21 duels with Spurs.
My Tottenham Liverpool tip, however, assumes a match at eye level, which could turn into a small spectacle. Also thanks to two top strikers on both sides.
The bettors’ forecast?
Before kick-off, the various top betting providers are not settling on a clear favourite in their Tottenham Liverpool betting tips. This is not surprising, given the table constellation.
But the Reds are likely to have the slightest edge. However, the prediction of a win of just over 2.00 is not a free ticket for a victory in the top match.
Even though their record over the last few months looks good, Spurs certainly have the advantage that they had the week off and were able to prepare for this encounter in peace and quiet.
Analysis: Tottenham vs Liverpool
For coach Ange Postecoglu it should be important that he gets the necessary time to work on his style of play. So far, at least, the success is proving him right.
His Spurs have won four of their six games so far. Most recently, they showed courage in the North London derby against Arsenal, twice coming back from a deficit.
The same applies to Jürgen Klopp’s men. In the last two away games against Wolves and Newcastle, they were behind on both occasions. In the end, they still managed two victories.
The Reds have now won three games away from home this season. If you add the away win in the Europa League against LASK, it is even four.
Quote analysis
Because of these comeback qualities of the visitors, it will be interesting with regard to the Tottenham Liverpool tip whether they can prove them again.
Before kick-off, the bookmakers at Interwetten are predicting odds of well over 8.00 should the Reds win away from home for the fourth time in a row after going behind.
But it should be clear that they will have to suffer. The Londoners are extremely dangerous offensively. They scored two or more goals in each of their six games.
At the same time, LFC have also been very accurate. They have scored exactly three goals in each of the last three games. Can we expect a scoring festival?
At Bwin Sportwetten we have a prediction of a little less than 2.00, should at least 3.5 goals be scored in this match.
The main protagonists are likely to be Heung-min Son and Mo Salah. The South Korean has scored five goals in his last three matches, while the Egyptian has been involved in a goal in each of his last 12 matches.
Tottenham still on course?
Before this season, some Spurs fans had major concerns. The departure of superstar Harry Kane threatened to tear a hole in the team.
But after the start of the season, it can be said that completely different players have taken his place. Above all, the duo around Son and James Maddison is one that is fun to watch.
The English newcomer already has four assists and two goals to his name. This is also a reason why Tottenham are setting out to break a record.
Since Craig Shakespeare scored over 1.5 goals in each of his first seven matches with Leicester in 2017, no coach has been able to match him. Ange Postecoglu could succeed in doing so.
Liverpool still have defensive problems
What was true of Spurs’ attack before this season was equally reported about Liverpool FC’s midfield. Due to the departures of Fabinho and Henderson in particular, many believed that performance would plummet.
But the new arrivals around Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have so far managed to make the midfielders forget with flying colours.
Nevertheless, it is a different style of play that is now being cultivated at Anfield Road. They have kept nil in only one of their six league games so far.
Away from home, they haven’t kept nil in any of their recent four matches season-long. But as long as the attack around Darwin Nunez and Mo Salah is so accurate, it should be compensatable.
In addition, we must note that Spurs are one of the Reds’ favourite opponents. Only Manchester United (39) and Chelsea (33) have suffered more defeats against them than the north Londoners (31).
Of course, this is also linked to LFC’s scoring prowess against the Hotspur. In the Premier League, which was founded in 1992, they have scored 109 goals against this opponent.
Since 15 league games, Liverpool have always scored against Tottenham. The last time that wasn’t the case was Jürgen Klopp’s debut in October 2015.
So Ange Postecoglu is now set to break that streak. He is unbeaten in front of a home crowd for a season and club-wide total of 20 competitive games.
My Spurs Liverpool tip:
Of course, hovering over everything in this encounter is the 2019 Champions League final, when the Reds prevailed 2-0.
It won’t be quite so tough and wait-and-see this time around. That’s also because both teams have exceptional strikers in Son and Salah in their ranks.
Since we can expect a high-scoring match, my Tottenham Liverpool tip is: Both teams score over 2.5 goals!
