Brazil – Uruguay betting tip, prediction & odds 20.11.2024

World Cup Qualifiers, Wednesday, 20.11.2024 at 01:45

The crisis just won’t end! These are anything but easy times for everyone rooting for the Brazilian national team. Things are not going according to plan in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, and of course their opponents know that too.

A favorite opponent is actually coming on Wednesday night, but that’s exactly who has been causing pain recently. While the bookmakers have the Selecao way out in front, I’ll tell you in my Brazil Uruguay betting tip why I’m still backing goals from both nations!

Eleven matchdays are over in the South American World Cup qualifiers. Brazil’s expectations: eleven wins, i.e. 33 points. The reality: Five wins and 17 points – more or less half the haul!

Nobody can really explain why the motherland of soccer, as Brazil likes to think of itself, has fallen so far. The recent 1:1 draw against Venezuela is emblematic of this.

The impressions of the 4:0 win over Peru that preceded it did not last long at all. The other four victories that the Brazilians secured in qualifying were almost all very close and often lucky.

16 goals scored and ten goals conceded is not exactly a sign that everything is going as expected in Brazil. With just one win in the Copa America, it was clearly no coincidence that they performed so poorly here

The superstars are not fulfilling their potential and the defense is repeatedly failing. The team can only count itself lucky that there are enough nations playing even worse and that World Cup qualification is not currently in danger.

The top six teams qualify directly for the next tournament, while the seventh-placed team has to qualify. That seventh place is just five points away, so there shouldn’t really be anything to worry about

Well, it wouldn’t be surprising if one or two fans didn’t even want to go to the stadium on Wednesday. Can I at least find some encouragement in the history?

Brazil failed to beat Uruguay at the Copa and were eliminated on penalties. Before that, also in the World Cup qualifiers, they lost 2-0. So the two most recent impressions were not good at all.

It’s hard to believe that the Brazilians had only lost one match since 1992. A new series is on the horizon, and it wouldn’t be positive at all. However, there is still one entity that is approaching the next game without any fear: the bookies!

With our bookies, a Brazilian home win has odds of 1.65, while the visitors from Uruguay are fobbed off with a much higher 5.40. Does that bother the Celeste? Probably not!

With 19 points, they are right behind the world champions from Argentina and have only suffered two defeats. Nevertheless, 2024 did not go so well in terms of World Cup qualifying.

They lost 1-0 to Peru, conceding a goal shortly before the end. Paraguay, Venezuela and Ecuador? These three opponents were all involved in the 0-0 draw. In other words, all four games came within a whisker of not scoring a single goal.

So it’s no wonder that some were of the opinion before the clash with Colombia: This is unlikely to be a goal festival. In the end, both teams had other plans, as Uruguay won 3:2!

First the Celeste drew 2:2 in stoppage time, when many were already expecting a draw, they struck again in the eleventh minute! First no goals four times in a row, now three, something must have happened to the offense.

One thing is definitely striking. Uruguay have won five times, four of them on home soil. Their only away win came against Argentina, of all teams, which of course gives them hope for Wednesday.

Once your reputation is ruined, you can live life to the full! The Brazilian national team is struggling to make it to the 2026 World Cup, and fans are now used to not expecting too much.

Uruguay are second, there is no pressure on the Celeste. After four unsuccessful games in a row, they have won again, and did so with a scrappy victory deep into stoppage time. But the only away win came in Argentina of all places.

Ultimately, I can’t imagine that the Brazilians will come out on top here. That’s why I’ve decided to favor the following tip:

Uruguay scores!
