Portsmouth – Millwall betting tip, prediction & odds 01/28/2025

Championship match day, Tuesday, 01/28/2025 at 20:45

Admittedly, it’s not exactly a top game! Portsmouth and Millwall play a rather minor role in the high-caliber Championship, so the postponed match, which will be played on Tuesday, is correspondingly important.

The home side, who were only promoted to the Championship a few months ago, are in danger of being relegated. So it will be music to the fans’ ears that I am tipping their team to get at least a point in my Portsmouth Millwall betting tip, with Over 1.5 goals.

For a promoted team, only the (if possible quick, premature) relegation counts, which is of course also the case with Portsmouth FC. Pompey, as the club is also known, is currently only just avoiding the critical zone.

The lead over the first relegation place is two points, which alone shows how important this week’s catch-up game is. The last results were a real rollercoaster for supporters.

First it seemed as if they were finally entering a really stable, good phase. 2-1 against Middlesbrough and 3-1 against Stoke City, it was the first time this season that the team had managed two wins in a row.

Then there was an away game against West Brom on the program, and the good mood was gone again. It was a clear 1:5, after 15 games the team now has 38 away goals.

Ten of the 15 matches were lost, only one ended in victory, Portsmouth is really a very welcome guest away from home. It is therefore all the more important that a home game is on the program again.

They have conceded 13 goals at home – but almost three times as many away from home! Six wins, four draws and three defeats – that’s not bad at all. And here it is, the series I was looking for earlier.

The last defeat at home was in October, and they’ve since notched up six wins and a draw at home. 3:1, 2:1, 4:0, 4:1, 0:0, 3:0, 3:1? Apart from this one outlier, the results could hardly be more one-sided!

The only problem could be: Only once in this period was an opponent beaten who was ranked in the single digits at the time of the encounter. Millwall is currently ranked 16th – so it fits perfectly into this construct.

To be honest, based on these statistics, I am a little surprised that our best sports betting apps do not offer odds in which you can see Portsmouth as favorites.

The victory odds are an average of 2.60, with the away team only slightly higher at 2.70. It will certainly not only come down to the duel from the first leg, which ended with a narrow 1-0 victory for Millwall.

The guests have five points more on the account, so of course they are not really leading the way either. It is very interesting to see what Millwall can do away from home, because four defeats actually read quite well.

On the other hand, there are only two wins to show for it, because in seven out of 13 games, the rate therefore exceeds 50 percent, exactly one point was collected! The kings of the draw tend to play in a very different style to the men from Portsmouth.

With 11:13 goals, there is an average of 1.8 goals per game, which does not fit at all with Portsmouth’s last home games. Just a few days ago, they picked up their second win with a 1-0 victory at the relegation candidates from Luton.

Two of their last nine away games have been lost, once by 0-1, the other time by 1-2. When Millwall lose, it’s usually always very close. Seven times the score was 0-1, once 3-4, once 2-3 and once 1-2.

Portsmouth are currently playing a very offensive, successful style of play at home, but I have found results for the Millwall visitors that involve far fewer goals and more draws.

Since Millwall have only won twice away from home and Portsmouth have been in very strong form at home, the double chance 1X is a safe bet for me. Deciding whether we should bet on there being many goals or few goals was not easy.

I decided on the happy medium, because the many goals scored by the home team (in their home games) have made a lasting impression on me. So I’m betting on the following for you:

Portsmouth scores over 1.5 goals!
