After the impressive performance of the Bergamasks in the league a few days ago, the fans can certainly have justified hopes for a successful UCL playoff first leg against Bruges.
The team from Bergamo seems to be back in good form and the betting providers with a German license also agree that “La Dea” is the favorite going into the duel.
In my Bruges Atalanta Bergamo prediction, I cover all the betting aspects of the game.
The Belgian hosts are certainly an unpleasant opponent, but the strength and self-confidence of the Bergamasque team could ultimately be the deciding factor in FCB losing a home game for the first time in five months.
Football history alone should never be the main reason to back Bruges Atalanta Bergamo. Especially not if there has never been a head-to-head between the two teams.
However, it is striking that FCB have not fared well against Italian clubs for many years.
This will be the first meeting between Club Brugge and Atalanta, but the Belgians have not won against Serie A teams in 15 European Cup games (6 draws, 9 defeats).
Their last victory against an Italian team dates back to 2003, when they beat Milan 1-0 in the Champions League.
The bookmakers’ prediction
FCB are the underdogs going into the tie against Bergamo, with odds of 3.70. The Italians, on the other hand, are the favorites, with odds of 2.05 on average, and seem to have a slightly better chance of winning the first leg.
The bookies are therefore optimistic in their proclaimed Bruges Atalanta Bergamo odds that “La Dea” could make the journey home with a small preliminary decision.
The Bruges Atalanta Bergamo AI prediction from ChatGPT provided me with three suggestions, which I then subjected to a strict “reality check” for you.
For the high risk, “Bruges win” is suggested, which I personally do not consider to be my preferred tip. However, Bruges have not lost a competitive game at home since October 2024 (12 wins, 3 draws).
That’s a remarkable record that potentially makes this high-rated tip worthwhile. It’s enough to make you stop and think.
On the other hand, “Both teams score? No!” is recommended at around 2.00, which I consider to be quite balanced.
It really is a 50-50 thing, but in the end I tend to think that only the Bergamasques will score, even if I think a 1-2 for ATA is also conceivable.
The safe option is “Atalanta wins at least one half” at 1.55. I like this tip better than a pure away win bet. Atalanta should be able to win at least one half in any case.
Analysis: Bruges vs Atalanta Bergamo
Despite a 3-1 defeat to Manchester City on matchday eight, the Belgians finished in the top 24 of the league phase and are now hoping to reach the last 16 for the third time in a row.
Their form, however, is a cause for concern, as they have only managed one win in their last six competitive games – and that was ‘only’ a 1-0 victory over Leuven, a Belgian football lightweight.
Incidentally, Club Brugge, with only seven goals scored, was the team with the lowest number of goals to successfully qualify for the Champions League playoffs.
Atalanta, on the other hand, put in a strong performance at the weekend, beating Verona 5-0. After three games without a win, they ended a negative streak that began with a 2-2 draw against Barcelona and cost them a top-8 place in the UCL.
ATA ultimately finished in the ungrateful ninth place in the league phase, just one point behind the direct qualifying places, but in the eyes of the bookmakers this also makes them the clear favorites in this contest against Bruges.
Historically speaking, the fans can certainly head to Belgium full of confidence, as Atalanta have only lost two of their last 13 Champions League away games and scored at least twice in 11 of those matches.
Odds Analysis
“Mateo Retegui scores” at 2.05 – a truly attractive Bruges Atalanta Bergamo betting tip that I have paid a lot of attention to. Especially after the national player’s impressive four-goal haul against Verona.
If anyone at Bergamo is currently in the right condition to help the team, it is Retegui.
“Over 2.5 goals” at odds of 1.91 is also a strong option. The statistics clearly support this, as in seven of Atalanta’s last eight away games in the Champions League, at least 3 goals were scored.
Brugge vs. Atalanta Bergamo Odds: Iron defense!
I expect there to be three goals, but that doesn’t mean that Club Brugge will necessarily be involved. Even one goal would be a surprise. Two? Almost a sensation!
Atalanta have conceded only six goals in eight games in this Champions League season, a figure bettered only by Internazionale (1), Arsenal (3) and Liverpool (5) in the competition.
But that’s not all: in fact, only Arsenal (19) have kept fewer shots on target than Atalanta (20) in the group stage. “La Dea” could thus keep the zero until the end!

Bruges: It’s been almost 50 years…
As I mentioned earlier, Brugge have a poor record against Serie A teams. It’s worth remembering that their last home win over an Italian side was in April 1978, when they beat Juventus 2-0 in the UEFA Cup.
Since then, they have not won any of their nine European home games against Italian teams (4 draws, 5 defeats), although they have not been beaten in their last three meetings (all draws), including a 0-0 draw against Juventus this season.
For the title-hungry Bergamo, meanwhile, there is a lot at stake. After being knocked out of the Coppa Italia and no longer playing a role in the race for the Scudetto either, Atalanta are now focusing all the more on reaching the UCL last 16.
Incidentally, if they succeed, it would be the third time in just four appearances that they would achieve this feat in the premier class.
Unfortunately, providers still cannot be directly selected, otherwise I would already have the perfect name for you that could be combined with the Interwetten Freebet.
Because Charles De Ketelaere has been directly involved in nine goals for Atalanta in eight games this Champions League season (4 goals, 5 assists).
On Wednesday, he could become the first player since Edin Džeko (2017/18, 8 goals, 2 assists for Roma) to score more than 10 goals for an Italian club in a single season in the Champions League.
My Bruges Atalanta Bergamo betting tip:
In the duel between Bruges and Atalanta Bergamo, the latter could just about come out on top. Mateo Rettegui should lead the line – he impressed against Verona at the weekend.
Given his form, I think he is the most likely to score for Bergamo. The hosts, on the other hand, could go home empty-handed in terms of goals.
My Bruges v Atalanta Bergamo prediction: The Italian international will score!
