Premier League 25th matchday, Sunday, 16/02/2025 at 5:30 PM
When the 13th meets the 14th… it can’t really be a top game! Somehow, though, it is, because with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, two big names are facing each other. Big names, both of which are far from their glory days.
If you look at the current Premier League betting odds, you actually only have the choice between Liverpool and Arsenal, because the two protagonists of my Tottenham Manchester United betting tip have as many points together as the leaders in red!
So it’s more of a crisis duel than a top game, and since both are languishing far down the table, picking a favorite is not easy. I therefore decided to place an over/under bet, which was definitely not that easy either!
My choice was “Under 3.5 goals”, so I’m focusing more on offensive weaknesses and a lot of idle time in the game. The complete lack of consistency on both sides makes it almost impossible to pin down a playing style.
Of course, it would be typical for this duel if both just didn’t win and the draw would make the dissatisfaction even worse. If that’s the case, then at least let’s have a game with two goals.
The betting providers’ prediction?
Both teams have eight wins each, so you really have to think carefully about who you see in front here. With our betting providers, you can get odds of 2.45 for a home win.
The average value for the guests from Manchester is hardly higher, with odds of 2.65. However, it should be mentioned that United have not won against Spurs in five games.
It goes without saying that no one would be satisfied with a draw in view of the current situation. In the last ten years, there have been three draws in this duel, so not very often. However, if you still want to take a chance on the tip, you can get odds of 3.75.
No one said it would be easy to be a Manchester United fan in 2024/25! The Red Devils themselves probably realized that they wouldn’t be in the running for the title, but even the most pessimistic of fans didn’t expect a place in the lower midfield.
With eight wins, five draws and 11 defeats, the team currently ranks 13th. Not once, and that’s something you have to achieve, did they manage to win twice in a row.
No sooner does United manage a win and you hope that it will finally develop a small streak than the upswing is over. After the hard-fought 1-0 win at Fulham, there was a 0-2 defeat against Crystal Palace.
Well, the 2-1 win against Leicester City in the FA Cup at least meant they progressed here, but with good and not-so-good results coming thick and fast in the Premier League recently, that’s not necessarily an advantage for Sunday.
Odds Analysis
I find it incredibly difficult to decide on a 1×2 bet. Both teams have not been convincing me for quite some time, which is why I would actually go for a draw here.
The Red Devils have already played eight away games with a draw at half-time. That’s exactly why the “Bet X at half-time” could be worthwhile for you, with odds of 2.30.
I have decided on the main tip “Under 3.5 goals”. If I now say that we have a good chance of a draw here, so many results are out of the question! Therefore, my choice of a result bet would be a 1-1, which is rewarded with odds of 8.50 on the Bet365 app.
United have been struggling in attack
Manchester often sleepwalk through the first half, because in the first half they only manage a total of nine goals! With 28 goals in total, they are not among the best in offensive statistics anyway – Tottenham have 48!
So, are you tipping that United will struggle before half-time? Absolutely, because Betano is offering odds of 1.85 for this bet. Interestingly, the team scores three goals in the first 45 minutes when they are away from home.
At 11:12 goals, the Red Devils are on the pitch, which corresponds to an average of 2.09 goals per away game. The score has already been 0-0 at half-time seven times. Interwetten offers you the opportunity to bet on this special result bet. The reward: odds of 3.70!
Tottenham have more problems in defense
At Interwetten, you can also currently benefit from an exclusive freebet. With the code “SKIWM25”, you can get eleven euros out of it. It may be a very weak source of encouragement, but hey: United have only lost one of their last four away games!
I would also like to briefly compare the goal average, because while there are only 2.09 goals per game away from home, the value at home climbs to a significantly higher even number of 3.0 with a goal difference of 17:22.
0-3 in the first leg and 3-4 in the EFL Cup? The two duels that United have already fought with Spurs this season were anything but successful, especially from a defensive point of view.
They have not won in five games, conceding a whopping 13 goals and never less than two per game. At least something that plays into the hands of the home side, because in North London they are not exactly bursting with confidence either.
Tottenham have two points less on the account again, and their strong attack of 48 goals is of no help. After only one point from seven games, but 18 goals against, this streak was finally stopped.
They beat Brentford 2-0! At the same time, it was their sixth clean sheet win, if we look at all eight successes, we only count two goals conceded here. That just doesn’t help much in the final reckoning, because if they don’t win, the defense wobbles alarmingly.
It has been seven home games since the fans last saw their Spurs carry them to victory at home. Five defeats, two draws, 19 goals conceded, the supporters are not having an easy time of it!
It’s hard to believe that this season had started with four home wins from the first five games and that 14 goals were scored during those wins alone – we can only dream of that now.
An incredible 4.2 goals are scored on average at Tottenham Stadium, with the average catapulted upwards by the defeats against Liverpool (3:6) and Chelsea (3:4). Only against Fulham (1:1) and Arsenal (0:1) were there fewer than 2.5 goals to see.
It has only happened twice this season that the first half has not ended in a win – and both of those games were the home games just mentioned. It is also interesting to note that the Spurs have never managed to enjoy a clean sheet three times in a row – they currently have two clean half-time results!
My tip
Tottenham or Manchester United – the question is not who is more ripe for a title, but rather who is in the worse crisis! Both teams have not been doing themselves proud at all, and have not done so for months.
While the Spurs are scoring goals for fun, that’s about it. While they score tons of goals at home, the picture is quite different for the Red Devils away from home, where they rarely score more than two goals per game.
So we are dealing with two teams that often perform quite differently. I see one thing above all: insecurity on both sides. That’s why I’ve decided to go with the following tip:
There won’t be more than three goals!
