For some it continues to go downhill, for others it can’t go any further downhill! In my Chelsea Southampton betting tip, two teams who aren’t exactly brimming with confidence meet on Tuesday.
The Blues are of course clearly favored against the last-placed team, which is not surprising against a team with nine points to their name. In my current analysis, I’ll tell you why more than three goals are to be expected in this match – and why both clubs could contribute to a spectacle!
They wanted to be a team that could play for the title again, a team that was aiming for a place in the top flight. A top team that is one of the best four in the Premier League.
Chelsea FC seemed to be on the right track shortly before the turn of the year, and were even considered to be Liverpool FC’s closest rivals for a few weeks. A 0-0 draw against Everton just before Christmas put an end to the mood of optimism.
Two wins from the last ten rounds, a 2-1 win against West Ham and a 3-1 win against Wolverhampton, was all that was left. Three of the last four matches have now ended without a point.
The Blues have become a really weak team away from home in particular, whereas at the start of the season their problems were more noticeable at home. So is it an advantage that they are playing at home on Tuesday?
After the 2-0 defeat to Manchester City on matchday one, they have lost just one home game, although they have only won six of their twelve matches. They have never managed to win three in a row.
That’s also interesting because there have recently been two three-pointers, precisely the two wins against Wolverhampton and West Ham that I mentioned at the beginning.
Once, in a 3-0 win against Aston Villa, the Londoners managed to play to nil in their own stadium. In general, I can report that the performances at Stamford Bridge are by no means boring.
With 22:15 goals scored, the average is 3.1 goals per game. Incidentally, only two of the Blues’ home games went into half-time with a 0-0 draw. Of course, fans have fond memories of the first half of the season, when they celebrated a 5-1 win over Southampton.
Not to be taken for granted, as there had only been two wins from the previous eight games. One home win from the last six home games? Phew, even this fact doesn’t read like Southampton are an absolute favorite opponent.
How do the bookmakers rate the situation? They naturally favor Chelsea, anything else would be a sensation. The odds are averaging 1.20 to 9.50, which will come as no surprise to the visitors given their position in the table.
Southampton have probably already started planning for the Championship, because anyone with just nine points after 26 matchdays has no business in the Premier League.

The Saints recently lost 4-0 to Brighton and, as always, had nothing to counter. But: They actually prefer playing away from home a little more than at home, have “only” conceded 24 goals and not, as at home, 37.

Southampton have scored before the break in three of their last four away games, but never before this period. The Bet365 app is offering odds of 2.75 in the event of a first-half goal on Tuesday.
Theoretically, relegation is still possible – but in practice, nobody believes in the miracle anymore. Nothing is going right for the Saints, in all the statistics there is no one far and wide who would do worse.
It’s a good thing that Chelsea FC are anything but in top form at the moment. The Blues are hardly ever winning, at least I could see that their own stadium has only seen two defeats.
Defensive vulnerability is definitely prevalent on both sides. As a result, I can well imagine that things will really get down to business on Tuesday. So my final tip is:
