The club from the city of Mozart, however, has initially had some disappointing results in the new year. A goalless draw against Klagenfurt and a 1-1 draw against Tirol were simply far too little for the club’s high standards.
But what followed was a real surprise coup: a 1-0 away win against the in-form Austria Wien team. This unexpected success could give them the boost RB Salzburg needed for the rest of the season.
However, their opponents, Sturm Graz, are in first place in the table, which of course doesn’t make things any easier.
Despite Sturm Graz’s lead in the table, the Styrians are not currently in the form of their lives. They have only managed two wins so far in the 2025 calendar year, coupled with one draw and four defeats.
This mixed record is a cause for concern, especially when you consider that the 1-0 win against RB Leipzig was only an “irrelevant” game in the Champions League and the 2-1 victory against BW Linz was not exactly against a championship contender.
In addition, Sturm Graz showed in their last away game against Wolfsberger AC with a clear 3-0 defeat that the club cannot always show its best face. If they show the same form against RBS, it could well be difficult to secure the three points.
The personnel situation at RB Salzburg, meanwhile, looks bleak. Players such as Kjaergaard, Konate and Onisiwo are out through injury, further weakening an already thin squad.
Especially in such an important match against Sturm Graz, these absences could weigh heavily.
