Copa del Rey, semi-final, second leg, Tuesday, 01.04.2025 at 21:30
Still in the running in all competitions in April – that’s exactly how Real Madrid imagine a hot phase of a season. The Whites will be gunning for a place in the Copa del Rey final on Tuesday.
My Real Madrid Real Sociedad betting tip is based on a slim 1-0 advantage that the Whites have from the first leg. Accordingly, I’m assuming that the second clash won’t be a roaring soccer festival either and you could therefore be right with the “Under 3.5 goals” bet.
It could be a season with three titles – or one in which a different team comes out on top in each competition. Real Madrid are three points behind FC Barcelona in La Liga and will soon face FC Arsenal in the CL quarter-finals.
And then there is also the Copa del Rey. The Whites have only won the title once in the last ten years, narrowly beating Osasuna in the final in 2023.
Aware sports betting fans will know that the semi-finals are a back-and-forth affair. The Madrilenians were able to take a cautious lead at Real Sociedad, but 1-0 is of course not half the battle.
It was by no means the first time that Real have been conspicuous with a narrow result in this competition. In the quarter-finals, they were beaten 3-2 by Leganes, and before that they even needed extra time to beat Celta Vigo 5-2.
So only the opening game of the Copa del Rey went really well, and the 5-0 win over Minera was not really on a par with their opponents. Close results? That’s exactly what Real are currently delivering in the league.
After winning just one of five games, the team needed to improve its performance. In terms of results, they did, with three wins in a row recently
But: 2:1 against Rayo Vallecano, 2:1 against Villarreal and 3:2 against Leganes, the three victories were on very shaky ground. What’s more, they have only managed to score twice since the beginning of December.
However, Real can rely all the more on Kylian Mbappe in attack. He has contributed twelve goals and one assist in the last ten league games and did not even play in the first leg against Sociedad in the Copa.
The corresponding goal bet on Mbappe brings you odds of 1.77 in the Bet365 app. The Frenchman was also successful in September, when Real beat Sociedad 2-0 in La Liga.
So do the Whites like playing against their upcoming opponents? Absolutely, as they have won all of their last four games. 1:0, 2:0, 1:0, 2:1 – but there were no clear victories here.
The last time they lost a home game against Sociedad was in 2020 – in the Copa of all places! That’s not a bad omen for the bookmakers with PayPal function, as the odds still come in at an average of 1.30 to 7.50.
Real Sociedad of course know that making up a deficit against Real Madrid is often an impossibility. Previously, the Basques had actually attracted attention with positive results in the Copa del Rey.
A 2-0 win over Osasuna and a 3-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano meant they had beaten two first division opponents before the semi-final. Sociedad also had a bit of luck during the competition before that
They went on to defeat Conquense 1-0 after extra time in the second round, so an exit would definitely have been embarrassing. The team is definitely not in a good mood, which quickly becomes apparent when you look at La Liga.
Although they won 2:1 against Real Valladolid last weekend, a narrow success against the bottom team is really nothing to write home about
Only three of their last ten matches have been victorious, and they haven’t won away from home since the beginning of December. Ten goals in 14 away games? Oops, the attacking play is really lacking!
What is interesting, however, is that the victories that have been achieved away from home have all been without conceding a goal. The Copa has held exactly one final since 1988, and in 2020 they even won the title.
Does Real Madrid have everything under control in the second leg? After the narrow 1-0 win in the first game, the Whites can take it a little easier, as their opponents will have to come and create space.
At the same time, however, I wouldn’t say the madridistas are in the most stable form at the moment. The last few victories have been quite fortunate, and it’s not exactly as if they’ve been reaching one Copa final after another for years.
I therefore assume that there won’t be a wild shootout. Since the last direct duels have not been particularly spectacular, my tip is:
The 3.5 goals will not be exceeded!
