Inter Milan – River Plate Prediction Club World Cup, Group E on Thursday, 06/26/2025 at 03:00
It’s all or nothing! In my Inter Milan vs. River Plate prediction, I will explain why I believe the Champions League finalists will be successful in their last and decisive group match.
First and foremost, the Nerazzurri are level on points with River Plate at the top of the table after the first two matches of this Club World Cup, but they are not yet certain of a place in the round of 16.
Accordingly, Milan will do everything in their power to secure a victory and not only advance but also win the group. A draw or defeat would even mean elimination.
However, the Argentines are in the same situation, which will of course also be taken into account in my Inter Milan vs. River Plate prediction.
Inter Milan vs. River Plate prediction & bets
Inter Milan are clear favorites, with odds of just under 2.00 for a win. The combination of the starting position, Inter’s stronger squad and the attractive betting odds has led me to predict a victory for the Italians in my Inter Milan vs. River Plate tip.
However, our sports betting providers have other interesting Club World Cup bets to offer for this explosive match. For example, there is a bet on a goal by Lautaro Martinez, who has scored two of Inter’s three goals so far.
A bet on this will give you odds of around 2.40, and you can also get a free bet with no deposit required with the VBET promo code.
What you need to bear in mind when betting on Inter Milan vs. River Plate
- In the game against Urawa, Inter had 82% possession, the highest figure recorded in the first two matchdays. The Nerazzurri are also third in terms of touches in the opponent’s penalty area (88).
- After the second matchday, River Plate has the most tackles (15 per game) and the most yellow cards (7), as well as the third-most fouls per game (17).
- Lautaro Martinez last played for Racing Club in Argentina against River Plate in 2017 and 2018. Martinez scored in the 2-3 away win in Belgrano.
- Inter have played Argentine teams five times. All five games were in the Intercontinental Cup against Independiente in 1964 and 1965. River Plate lost the Intercontinental Cup to Juventus Turin in 1996.
- Against Urawa Red Diamonds, Valentin Carboni became the first player under the age of 21 to score a goal for Inter Milan since December 21, 2019. Seventeen-year-old Sebastiano Esposito scored in Serie A against Genoa.
Inter Milan – River Plate: odds analysis
Considered one of the big favorites to win the Club World Cup before the tournament began, Inter has fallen significantly in the rankings.
The Nerazzuri have fallen short of expectations, which is also reflected in the Inter Milan River Plate betting odds.
Inter originally started this competition with odds of 1.60, but have fallen back to just under 1.90 due to concerns about the team’s form and the complex group situation.
The odds for a draw have also fallen significantly and now stand at an implied probability of 32.3%.
The reason for the recent change in odds is that, theoretically, both teams could advance with a point from this game. However, that would depend on the result of the match between Urawa Red Diamonds and Monterrey.
However, the Italians will certainly not leave promotion to chance.
Despite the change in odds, the Serie A club is still the better team and should be able to finish this group without any problems.
However, the fact that they have conceded goals against weaker opponents such as Monterrey and Urawa has raised some questions.
The current Inter River Plate odds suggest a 61.3% probability that both teams will score. This is also supported by statistical data and previous results.
Interestingly, the bookmakers draw the line at 2.5 goals in the game, with the bookies slightly favoring “over” (odds of 1.82 compared to 1.92 for under 2.5 goals).
Our AI tool’s prediction of 2.65 goals per game is in line with this cautious assessment. A tactical duel is to be expected, in which small details will make the difference.
The best odds for Inter Milan vs. River Plate
Even though Inter have fallen slightly behind expectations so far with a narrow win and a draw, the betting odds of just under 2.00 clearly favor the Italians.
However, the starting position is no longer as clear as it perhaps was before the tournament began.
The bookmakers are expecting a balanced game, with Inter Milan favored in the 1X2 market, but the probability of a win is “only” around 52%.
It is doubtful whether both teams will engage in dangerous calculations, as a draw could be enough for both to advance. However, the odds for a draw are a respectable 3.10 on average. This assessment will depend heavily on the score in the parallel match, though.
River Plate is the clear underdog with odds of 4.00 and above.
Inter Milan vs River Plate match analysis:
Neither Inter Milan nor River Plate have made it to the knockout stages yet. Although the Argentines only need one point, Inter cannot afford to sit back and relax with Monterrey hot on their heels.
The Italians have not delivered a brilliant performance so far, but with Lautaro Martinez in top form with two goals in as many games, they are always a dangerous opponent – even if their performances are not always consistent.
River left the pitch frustrated after the game against Monterrey because they failed to take all three points despite their dominance. In addition, important players will be missing from the clash with Inter due to injury or suspension.
With Enzo Perez, Kevin Castano and Giuliano Galoppo, all of Marcelo Gallardo’s preferred midfielders are suspended. The Argentinians don’t really have much depth in their squad, so these absences will significantly weaken them.
Inter form check
Inter Milan continues to rely on Lautaro Martinez in the Club World Cup – and although he cannot decide the tournament on his own, the Argentine repeatedly shows why he is one of the best strikers in the world.
His equalizer against Urawa was particularly impressive, and he also played a key role in bringing his team back into the game against Monterrey with his clever running.
Overall, however, Inter are not yet firing on all cylinders. The team fought back well against Urawa, but against River Plate, who are a class above the Japanese, they can’t afford to fall behind.
Milan has an experienced team that made it to the Champions League final. Some of them may be tired, but the last game showed that Inter still has enough reserves to advance in this competition. Especially against a River team that will inevitably rotate heavily.
River Plate form check
River Plate will feel that they should already be in the round of 16, as they failed to secure early qualification in their second group game.
Despite their overwhelming superiority and an xG value of 1.45, Monterrey defended stubbornly and thwarted every chance the Argentinians had to score. Therefore, the score remained 0-0.
With Sebastian Driussi out injured, River coach Marcelo Gallardo had to fall back on Miguel Borja. And he failed to impress coming off the bench in the second group game.
The midfield is a major concern for River Plate fans. All the options to replace the missing players are over 30 years old and will have little playing time in 2025 due to injuries or lack of quality.
Of course, 17-year-old wonder kid Franco Mastantuono can provide moments of magic, but so far he has not reached his usual level in this tournament.
My prediction: Inter win
