Ryder Cup schedule: All dates and times

Format and mode: How the game is played
The Ryder Cup mode is slightly different from “classic” golf tournaments. The game is not played “against the course,” but “man against man” or “pair against pair.”
The 2025 Ryder Cup format will be match play. On the first two days of the tournament (Friday and Saturday), “fourballs” and foursomes will be played, with two players from Team USA and Team Europe competing against each other.
The final day will traditionally feature twelve singles matches. Then it will be decided who wins this year’s Europe-USA showdown. In the singles, the players compete one-on-one (one from the European team and one from the US team). These singles will start on Sunday at 6:02 p.m. German time and will begin at 11-minute intervals.
- Fourball (Best Ball): Two players from each team play their own ball. At the end of each hole, only the better score of the two players counts. The team with the better score wins the hole.
- Foursomes (Alternate Shot): Two players from each team share a ball and take turns hitting it. One player tees off, the other takes the next shot, and so on.
- Singles Matches: On Sunday, the final day of the tournament, all twelve players from both teams compete against each other in direct duels. Each duel is a one-on-one match in which the goal is to defeat the opponent.

The Ryder Cup participants from the USA and Europe
The Ryder Cup 2025 players in Team USA read like a “Who’s Who” of the golfing elite.
In addition to the number one player in the PGA world rankings, Scottie Scheffler, six other players from the PGA world rankings are also in the line-up: Xander Schauffele (3rd), Russell Henley (4th), Justin Thomas (5th), J.J. Spaun (7th), Colin Morikawa (8th), and Harris English (10th).
In addition to Spaun and Henley, Ben Griffin and Cameron Young are two of four debutants on the list of Ryder Cup 2025 participants for the USA.
With Schauffele, Thomas, and Morikawa, Team USA has highly decorated players in its line-up who not only have numerous major titles to their name but also a wealth of Ryder Cup experience.
What does Team Europe look like for the Ryder Cup?
The European team is led by Rory McIlroy. The 36-year-old Northern Irishman is ranked second in the world and is the number one player on Team Europe.
Apart from McIlroy, only two other European Ryder Cup participants for 2025 are in the top 10 of the world rankings: Tommy Fleetwood (England) at number 6 and Robert MacIntyre (Scotland) at number 9.
Behind them are Justin Rose (ENG/number 12), Sepp Straka (AUT/13), Ludvig Aberg (SWE/14) and Viktor Hovland (NOR) at number 15 in the world rankings.

Ryder Cup 2025 prediction – who is the favorite in the USA vs. Europe golf duel?
Team USA has the better Ryder Cup 2023 players in its ranks – led by world number one Scottie Scheffler. With Schauffele (3rd), Henley (4th), Thomas (5th), there are three more top-5 players in the US squad.
The Ryder Cup betting odds from sports betting providers see the USA’s probability of winning at more than 59 percent. For the Europeans, the chance is around 40 percent. There is about an 8 percent probability of a tie, which would be equivalent to Europe defending its title.
These statistics clearly favor the US team. The Europeans are going into the three days of competition on Long Island as underdogs.
However, the team competition has shown time and again that many other qualities are required in addition to playing strength. This was also the case in 2023, when the US was in a similar favorite role as this time.
In the last seven Ryder Cup editions since 2010, Europe has won five times – including the last edition two years ago in Rome (Italy). 2021 was the last time the US won the prestigious golf duel.
The picture is not much different if you look further back in the list of winners: the US has only won three of the last 10 Ryder Cup duels. In addition to 2021 and 2016, this was also the case in 2008.
It is also interesting to note that since 2010, the “home team” has won six of the seven matches. Only in 2012 did Team Europe win an away match in the USA. If this trend continues, the USA will win the home match this weekend.
