Mode & rules of the new Icon League
What will the format and mode of the Icon League be?
The games will be played 5 vs. 5 with boards. This is one of two differences from the Baller League, where games are played 6 vs. 6 without boards.
With a corresponding set of rules, everything should become even more exciting and varied.
Each team has one “rulebreaker” during the game, which can be used once per team. There are a total of eight of these Icon League rules.
The rules of the Icon League 2025
- Players: 5 vs. 5 on the field
- Game duration: 2 x 15 minutes (5-minute half-time break)
- Field: 50 x 29 meters WITH boards
- No draws: If the score is tied after official playing time, the “golden goal” decides the winner.
What are the rulebreakers?
The “rulebreakers” in Icon League Mode 2025 are special rules that a team can use to throw their opponents off their rhythm or even to decide a game.
For example, goals count double if the shot or assist was played off the boards. In “Team Play,” goals also count double if the players have only touched the ball once each beforehand.
Another interesting feature is the “shot clock,” which gives the attacking team only 20 seconds to take a shot. The “power play” rule, where an additional player enters the field, could be fun.
Rulebreaker rules at a glance
- Shot clock: The attack must be executed within 20 seconds.
- Team play: A goal counts double if at least everyone on the team has touched the ball beforehand.
- Bounce: If an assist or goal is made off the bounce, the goal counts double.
- Nutmeg: The player who is nutmegged must leave the field for one minute.
- Two touches: If a player touches the ball a third time, possession is transferred to the other team.
- Power play: An additional player enters the field.
- Position: The goalkeeper swaps with an additional field player.
The eighth and final Icon League rule regarding “rulebreakers” may be determined by the community. This rule will then be incorporated into the games and used.
The rules of the Icon League 2025 can therefore be expanded and changed at any time.

TV & Stream: Who is broadcasting the new small-field league?
When there’s a new soccer league in Germany, especially one featuring well-known stars, fans of the beautiful game naturally want to know if it will be broadcast live: Will the Icon League 2025 be broadcast anywhere?
The Icon League will be broadcast in its entirety via stream on Twitch. This makes sense, as social media star Elias Nerlich—a co-founder of the Icon League—has over two million followers on his Twitch account.
The second platform broadcasting the Icon League is Pluto TV. This free online platform and app offers access to 100 TV channels online. Pluto TV is easy to use and does not require registration.
It is possible that the Icon League will also be broadcast on TV in order to reach soccer fans who are not (yet) on Twitch or do not have the Pluto TV app.
Broadcasting on RTL or the niche channel Nitro would be an option, as Elias Nerlich and RTL have worked together frequently in the past.
Are there tickets for the new 2025 season?
There is also interest in the small-field league for Season 3, which starts in fall 2025. The question remains: Are there tickets for the Icon League 2025 in the fall?
The answer is “yes.” There are tickets for all 15 match days.
Ticket prices for the venues in Hamburg, Hanover, Bremen, and Leipzig start at €15 in price category 4 and go up to €60 (price category 1).
The prices for tickets at the Castello in Düsseldorf, where a total of nine match days on the Icon League 2025 schedule will take place, are all €12 (free choice of seats).
What exactly is the Icon League?
The Icon League was born on November 6, 2023. On that day, it was announced that Germany’s top soccer player Toni Kroos and social media star Elias Nerlich were launching a joint project.
The Icon League will be a small-field soccer league in which teams of five players each compete against each other in a league.
Like Gerard Pique’s famous Kings League and Mats Hummels and Lukas Podolski’s Baller League, which celebrated its premiere in 2024, The Icon League is also a tribute to the former indoor soccer league.
However, the new Icon League promises to be slightly different from the two existing models. How will it differ from the Baller League and Kings League? We can’t wait to find out.
In an interview, Toni Kroos cryptically revealed: “We will create something new, something innovative, something electrifying. We will offer highly entertaining soccer with entertainment – a spectacle.”
