Cologne will likely stick to its new, more offensive approach against Augsburg – and that promises to be spectacular.
Effzeh has already scored a total of 20 goals in league games, which shows that while they are playing more courageously up front, they remain vulnerable at the back.
Especially at home, Cologne will likely try to make an early impact, even if there is a high risk of an open exchange of blows.
Augsburg, on the other hand, plays with an open visor: The Fuggerstadt team operates with an average defensive line of 47.06 meters – the sixth highest in the Bundesliga.
This aggressive pressing leads to periods of pressure in the opponent’s third, but repeatedly leaves gaps in the defense. No other team has a higher xGA value, with Augsburg conceding an average of 2.17 goals per game.
Cologne will want to take advantage of this by letting Augsburg come at them and countering with direct, vertical passes into space.
However, this also carries risks – after all, Cologne has the highest “expected goals against” values from set pieces.

The 19-year-old has only been in the starting lineup once so far, but his efficiency is impressive: three goal contributions, the most shots on goal per 90 minutes (2.9) and the most successful dribbles (4.6) in the team speak for themselves.
Despite this positive record, caution is still advised – because FC Augsburg’s home games are high-scoring (an average of four goals per game), and at least one goal is to be expected against the highly efficient Fuggerstadt team.

With their 3-1 win over Wolfsburg, FC Augsburg finally managed to turn things around – after four defeats in a row, this victory was sorely needed.
Mert Kömür in particular came into the spotlight: the youngster set up a goal and scored one himself, impressively underlining his growing importance under coach Sandro Wagner.
Despite the success, the defense remains a major concern. With an xGA value of 13.75, Augsburg currently has the weakest defense in the league – so it’s no wonder that games involving FCA average four goals.
This vulnerability makes it difficult to score consistently and regularly costs the team important points.
Nevertheless, the fans are hoping that the team will continue its upswing and secure its first away win since August 23 this weekend.
However, the statistics are against them: since April 26, Augsburg has only managed one clean sheet in the league – a defensive weakness that makes it even more difficult to catch up with the mid-table teams.
