For today’s Cologne Leipzig tip, I have planned the first Sunday game of the 21st matchday of the Bundesliga. Here, the promoted team from the cathedral city meets a Champions League contender who has stumbled a bit recently.

Apart from my main tip, there are a few other interesting markets. A pure bet on a draw has its charm. Two of the last three direct duels ended in a draw and with Leipzig’s current form, that is not unlikely.
I also find the bet on Cologne not scoring a goal in the first half exciting. Leipzig have the fourth-best defence in the league and did not concede a single goal away from home in seven of nine games before the break. For this, the betting providers offer good odds with PayPal.
If you look around the Asian market, you will also find good options. The Asian Handicap Line is at Leipzig -0.5, which corresponds to a pure win bet. The Asian Handicap Line for over-goals is set at 3.25, which is worth considering given Leipzig’s scoring mood against Cologne.

Of course, our AI model does not miss the duel between 1. FC Cologne and RB Leipzig. So it doesn’t work without Cologne Leipzig AI forecasting.
As the first tip alternative, the digital brain brings the bet “draw at half-time” into play. The home advantage for Cologne and Leipzig’s lack of form make a close exchange of blows likely. The odds around 3.90 therefore justify the risk.
The result tip of the AI is also interesting. The “1-1 draw” fits the starting position and is also the most likely final result from the bookmakers’ point of view. The odds are about 8.50 and could of course be something for an Interwetten Freebet.
Said El Mala is the shooting star of this Cologne season. The youngster already has seven goals to his name this season and is also the first contender for a Cologne goal in the game against RBL. With odds above 2.00 for at least one hit by the talent, you can get weak.
The best odds for Cologne vs. Leipzig
I once started our internal AI tool to get a purely data-based Cologne Leipzig forecast. The numbers speak quite a clear language and support the visitors’ role as favourites, but also leave room for other scenarios.
Our supercomputer calculates a 46.8% probability of victory for RB Leipzig. This also coincides with the Cologne Leipzig odds of the bookmakers, who see an implied probability of about 49% for an away win.
For a home win of 1. FC Cologne, the analysis spits out a chance of 30.5%. A draw is rated as the most unlikely of the three outcomes at 22.7%, but that doesn’t mean it’s out of the question, as evidenced by the recent form of both teams.
It gets particularly interesting with the goals. The AI model predicts a total of 3.29 goals for the match. This reinforces my tendency that we will see some goals here and justifies bets on the over/under market.
Broken down to the teams, the AI expects 1.47 goals for Cologne and 1.81 goals for Leipzig. These values strongly suggest that both teams will be successful at least once, which further strengthens my main tip.
In the first leg, four goals were scored in Leipzig’s 3-1 victory and the duels before that were also extremely goal-rich with 1-5 and 6-0. The AI analysis thus confirms the trend from the head-to-head comparisons and points to an entertaining game for fans.
Cologne vs Leipzig Match Analysis:
A look at the table shows that the tenth meets the fifth, but the teams are already separated by a whopping 13 points. Cologne have to pick up points to avoid getting involved in the relegation battle, because the lower half of the table is extremely close.
In particular, Mainz’s recent upswing under coach Urs Fischer has exacerbated the situation for the teams in midfield. Slipping into the relegation place can happen quickly with a small negative series, which is why FC has to use the home advantage.
Leipzig, on the other hand, have their sights firmly set on qualifying for the Champions League. However, due to their small form crisis, they have lost touch with fourth-placed VfB Stuttgart and are currently three points behind the Swabians.
Under coach Ole Werner, the Bulls are extremely attacking and average 16.05 shots on goal per game – the second-best value in the league. They will face a Cologne defence that is above the league average with 14.05 shots allowed.
Leipzig will therefore have their chances. The recent 2-1 defeat against Mainz showed that they have to take advantage of it. Despite 70% possession and pressing superiority, they were left empty-handed in the end.
The key for Cologne will be to be secure at the back and keep Leipzig’s attack in check. If this succeeds, the uncertainty of the guests could grow and a point for the home team is within reach.
Cologne Form Check
Cologne are in a positive phase and have won two of their last three Bundesliga games. The most recent 1-0 home win against Wolfsburg was particularly important, in which Linton Maina scored his second goal of the season.
This upward trend is remarkable, because with these two victories they have equalized their record from the 15 previous games (two wins, five draws, eight defeats). So the self-confidence in the team should be right.
Particularly remarkable: With six wins this season, the goats already have one more win on their account than in the entire 2023/24 relegation season. The hope of staying in the league is therefore greater than ever in the cathedral city.
The Cologne team draws its strength above all from the home games. They have already celebrated four victories in their own stadium and only failed to score in the narrow 1-0 defeat against Union Berlin. The fans are a real factor.
Most recently, FC even managed two home wins in a row, which has not happened since October 2022. Against Leipzig, the team is now aiming for the second home game of the season without conceding a goal, which will be a mammoth task in view of Leipzig’s offensive.
In order to strengthen the squad, the club loaned Felipe Chávez from FC Bayern Munich on the last day of the transfer window. The 18-year-old Peruvian international is expected to revive the attack until the end of the season and provide new impetus.
Leipzig Form Check
Despite the 2-1 home defeat against relegation candidates Mainz last weekend, Leipzig are sticking to their goal of Champions League qualification. However, the defeat was a bitter damper on the club’s ambitions.
The game against Mainz once again revealed a well-known problem: Leipzig cannot take the lead over time. After Conrad Harder had put the team in front, they gave the game away and squandered valuable points.
After a strong start to the season, the Saxons are a bit of a worm in it. They have lost four of their last seven Bundesliga games. That is twice as many defeats as in the first 13 games of the season combined, when they only lost twice.
Paradoxically, the away record remains solid despite the recent problems. Of the last nine games away from home, only two have been lost, while four have been won and three drawn. They kept a clean sheet five times.
To strengthen the offensive, Leipzig struck on the transfer market in the winter. Young winger Ayodele Thomas came from PSV Eindhoven, who impressed in the Netherlands with three goals and six assists in 18 games.
In addition, the German U-21 international Brajan Gruda was loaned out from Brighton & Hove Albion. He will wear the number 10 jersey until the end of the season and is expected to provide more creativity and goal threat in midfield.
