Mainz – Freiburg Tip Bundesliga, Matchday 29 on Sunday, 12.04.2026 at 19:30 CET
At the end of the 29th matchday of the Bundesliga, I present you my Mainz Freiburg tip. Both teams are in the quarter-finals of a European competition and will have to manage their forces well for this duel on Sunday evening.
I’m counting on both teams to score. This bet has the greatest potential for me, as both teams have recently scored and conceded goals on a regular basis. At Winamax you will find an attractive odd of 1.66.
Both teams delivered results in their last two BL games, in which both teams scored in each case. Freiburg won the first leg 4-0, but the last duel in Mainz ended in an entertaining 2-2.
Mainz go into the game full of confidence after the 2-1 win against Hoffenheim. However, the match in the quarter-finals of the Conference League against Strasbourg could have cost important energy, which could be missing on Sunday.
Freiburg want to get back on track after the narrow 3-2 defeat against Bayern in the Bundesliga. The Breisgau team are in eighth place in the table and travel to Celta Vigo after their quarter-final first leg in the Europa League.
While Mainz can boast an impressive run of eight unbeaten games in the Bundesliga, the direct record speaks for the guests. Freiburg have not lost in the last nine duels against the 05ers.
Mainz – Freiburg Prediction & Betting Tips
Another interesting option is betting on a home win. Mainz is experiencing an upswing under Urs Fischer and is strong at home. Freiburg, on the other hand, often has problems on the road, which makes the odds of 2.25.
For all those who want to play it safe, I recommend the double chance on Mainz combined with goals on both sides. Three of Mainz’s last six league games have ended in draws, which secures this bet with odds of 2.05.
The 05ers have not kept a clean sheet in six of their last seven league games. Freiburg scores an average of 1.5 goals per game and should therefore be able to overcome the Mainz defence at least once.
This is what you need to consider when betting on Mainz vs. Freiburg
- Mainz have won five competitive games in a row after beating Strasbourg.
- In the first leg in November, Freiburg celebrated their biggest win of the 2025/26 season with a 4-0 victory.
- Both teams have only scored in six of Freiburg’s 14 away games – the lowest rate in the league at 43%.
- Kaishu Sano has won the ball 170 times for Mainz this season, which is the best in the league.
Mainz – Freiburg: AI Tip & Odds Analysis
Both teams are stranded in the middle of the table. Both teams have to defend a first-leg lead in the European Cup. The initial situation offers a few additional variables that our AI model needs to take into account in its Mainz Freiburg AI forecast.
Unsurprisingly, the digital brain does not assume a one-sided affair and brings the bet “draw at half-time” into play.
If you want to go one step further, you can think about the “0-0 at half-time”. Both teams are likely to have their heads in the European Cup. In any case, an uneventful first half would not surprise me.
And the AI’s risk tip also takes a similar line. From my point of view, the “1:1 draw” fits perfectly with the starting position and, by the way, is perfectly compatible with my main tip. And by the way: For the bookmakers, it is the most likely result with odds around 6.00.
The best odds for Mainz vs. Freiburg
Our AI tool predicts a very even game. The odds of Mainz winning at home are 38.0%, while Freiburg is rated at 35.7%. A draw has a 26.2% chance.
The expected number of goals is 2.74 goals for the entire game. The goals are divided almost perfectly: 1.36 for Mainz and 1.37 for Freiburg. This underlines how close this duel actually is on paper.
The analysis of our AI tool supports my main bet. It predicts a 56.90% chance that both teams will score in this match. This is a strong indication of a high-scoring encounter.
The Mainz Freiburg odds of the bookmakers see the hosts with a slight advantage. The implicit chance of victory for Mainz is around 44%. The Asian Handicap Line is set at 0.0, -0.5 for the home team, which requires a win.
With this Asian Handicap Line, you would win your stake if Mainz won. If the game ends in a draw, you lose half of your stake. This shows that the experts expect a close game.
The Asian Handicap Line for over-goals is 2.5. This means that at least three goals would have to be scored for bets on “Over” to be successful. This figure is well below the Bundesliga average of 3.23 goals per game.
Mainz vs Freiburg Match Analysis:
Mainz is only four points behind Freiburg in the table. However, since the gap to sixth place is too big, qualification for Europe via the league is hardly achievable for both teams. The focus is clearly on the cup competitions.
Both teams were in European action on Thursday evening. The league is therefore not the highest priority, but I expect a hard-fought game in which none of the teams will give each other anything.
Since Urs Fischer has been in charge, Mainz have only had an average of 39% possession. In 13 of 15 Bundesliga games, they had less of the ball than their opponents. This is a clear tactical feature of the 05s under the new coach.
Freiburg often have difficulties keeping the ball away from home, but should get more of the game against deep-lying Mainz. The hosts are not known for high pressing and allow many passes per defensive action.
Despite the low possession, Mainz creates many chances. Under Fischer, they average 4.73 shots on goal per game, which is a significant increase. So we can expect the home side to be dangerous.
Although Mainz has improved a lot, this game can tip in either direction. I assume that both teams will get their chances. In the end, efficiency in finishing will make the decisive difference.
Mainz Form Check
Mainz have made an impressive turnaround since the arrival of coach Urs Fischer. After a weak first half of the season with only 12 points, the 05ers have already picked up 21 points from 11 games in the second half of the season.
Fischer collected a club record of 27 points in his first 15 games. After the quarter-final first leg in the Conference League, the team is unbeaten in nine games across all competitions.
Mainz have become a force to be reckoned with, especially at home. The current run of seven unbeaten home games in the Bundesliga is in stark contrast to the five defeats in the seven home games before that.
Last weekend, Mainz celebrated an important 2-1 win against Hoffenheim, in which Philipp Tietz shone with a brace. His sudden coldness is of enormous importance for the team.
Tietz’s form is decisive, as he has often undercut his xG value of 6.31 this season. However, his recent performances show that he is finally converting the quality of his scoring chances into something countable.
Mainz’s defence is much more stable than at the beginning of the season. The longest active run of unbeaten home games in the Bundesliga and few goals conceded in Europe make them a difficult opponent to crack.
Freiburg Form Check
Freiburg is in the final phase of a season that could be historic. Besides Bayern, they are the only German team still represented in three competitions, including the DFB Cup semi-finals.
However, the busy schedule takes its toll. With eleven defeats in the Bundesliga, Freiburg have already suffered as many defeats as in the entire 2024/2025 preseason.
The recent 3-2 defeat against Bayern after leading 2-0 illustrates a worrying trend. Freiburg squandered too many points in the final phase and conceded the winning goal in injury time.
A big statistical weakness is Freiburg’s defense in set pieces. They have already conceded 13 goals from corners, a figure that is approaching historic negative records in the Bundesliga.
Despite a recent 2-1 win at St. Pauli, the team from Breisgau has not yet managed to celebrate two away wins in a row this season. The form on foreign ground remains changeable.
With six games remaining, qualification for Europe could depend on winning one of the two cup competitions. The position in the league has been shaken by the latest results.
