What are the chances of Bayern winning the treble?

The Bundesliga was won with a 16-point lead over Borussia Dortmund and the DFB Cup also went to Munich after a 3-0 final victory against VfB Stuttgart. In the Champions League, Bayern reached the semi-finals, where they were narrowly beaten by eventual champions Paris St. Germain.

Bayern triple chances through the Champions League
At the beginning of the league phase, Bayern will be listed in the top flight – directly behind Paris St. Germain, on a par with Arsenal, last season’s finalists, and other title contenders such as Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
But: Despite all their dominance in their own country, Bayern are not a serial winner of the Champions League.
In the Corona year 2020, Bayern last won the Champions League and thus also the treble. Since then, four times in the quarterfinals prematurely ended. That was in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2025. The exceptions in this period were in 2024 and in the previous season, when it went to the semi-finals.
Therefore, winning the Champions League and thus also the Bayern treble in 2027 will be anything but a foregone conclusion.
How many times has there been a treble in European football?
A look at football history shows that winning the treble is anything but a matter of course. Bayern know that just like all the other clubs.
In total, there have only been eleven times (!) a perfect season at club level.
The first treble winner in European football was Celtic Glasgow from Scotland. The Green and Whites won the league title, the national cup competition and the then Champions Cup, thus ensuring the first triple triumph in a season.
After that, there were two Dutch treble champions in Ajax Amsterdam and PSV Eindhoven, before Manchester United became the first treble winner from England in 1998/1999. This rare feat was achieved ten years later by FC Barcelona.
Previous European treble winners
In the recent past, however, the triple triumph has been achieved more and more often. In the 2009/2010 season, Inter Milan won the treble and since then there have been five (!) more treble triumphs – including twice to FC Bayern (2013 and 2020) and Manchester City (2022/23). The last treble winner in European football is Paris St. Germain in the 2024/25 season.
Only FC Bayern and FC Barcelona have managed to win the treble twice so far. If Bayern wins the treble in 2027, then the German leader would be the first club ever to achieve this rare feat a third time.
Real Madrid has never won the treble of league title, cup victory and Champions League, and no club has ever managed to repeat the treble directly.
