During these three weeks of the “preseason”, all NFL teams will play three test games.

Explanation of the NFL preseason schedule and dates: Unlike the official season schedule, the preseason schedule is highly variable.
The teams determine their kick-off times individually – also in consultation with the regional TV stations.

German American football fans are looking forward to the upcoming National Football League season and wondering whether the pre-season games will be shown live alongside the NFL season games.
Will the NFL Preseason 2024 games be broadcast in Germany?
The “test games” for the 2024/25 NFL season will be shown on free-to-air TV on RTL and on the paid sports streaming service DAZN.

NFL preseason broadcast on RTL & DAZN
The NFL Preseason 2024 RTL broadcast looks like this in detail: There will be a total of three games broadcast live on the specialty channel Nitro. However, the kick-off will only take place in Week 2.
On August 17, RTL Nitro will first show the game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Atlanta Falcons from 6:00 pm. This will be followed by the game between the current Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs and the Detroit Lions on RTL’s NFL preseason schedule from 22:00.
The third game of “NFL Preasoson 2023 RTL” runs on August 24. The Detroit Lions’ preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers will be broadcast live at 7:00 p.m.
The streaming service DAZN broadcasts the so-called “prime-time games” in the NFL preseason – i.e. games that take place late in the evening or at night at German time.
A total of three test games will be shown on DAZN in August, starting in Week 2.
The first on the night from Sunday to Monday (August 19) with New Orleans Saints vs. San Francisco 49ers.
In Week 3 of the preseason, the sports streamer will show two games – first on August 25 (10:30 p.m.) the Cardinals vs. Broncos game and then (Mon., Aug. 26 from 2:00 a.m.) the Patriots vs. Commanders preseason game.
How is the NFL preseason schedule made up?
How the NFL Preseason 2024 schedule is put together is complicated.
There is no rigid concept like the actual NFL schedule. The NFL even allows teams to request matches for the preseason.
A few basic ideas then apply when drawing up the schedule, although there can be exceptions to these. These include the following rules:
- Teams from the same division should not play against each other
- If possible, teams from the AFC and NFC should play each other
- Preferably there should be duels between teams that are geographically close to each other
- There should be no more than 2 time zones between the home cities of the two teams
- No duel should occur more than once
