Australia national team coach Graham Arnold has resigned in the crucial qualifying phase for the 2026 World Cup. The association announced this on Friday morning. “After careful consideration, I believe it is time for new leadership to take the team forward,” said the 61-year-old, who took over the Socceroos in July 2018 and led them to the knockout stage of the 2022 World Cup. He holds the country’s record for the longest tenure in the role, having served for six years. In early September, his team got off to a slow start in the decisive third round of Asian World Cup qualifiers with a 1-0 loss to Bahrain and a 0-0 draw with Indonesia.
