SK Rapid – Austria Vienna betting tip, prediction & odds 22.09.2024

Bundesliga Austria, Sunday, 22.09.2024 at 5:00 pm

The 336th Vienna derby between Rapid and Austria is about a place in the champions’ group of the top 6 and, consequently, an international starting place for the next season.

Currently, the two Viennese clubs are ranked 2nd (Rapid) and 6th (Austria) and are separated by three points.

Recently, the duels between the two city rivals were very even. This time, the betting providers we tested see slight advantages for the home team in the Rapid Austria Vienna betting tip.

Rapid AND support Austria? Never! These days, football fans in Vienna have to take a clear stand again on who their hearts belong to. They are still close together in the table, but of course the other is not granted a single point.

I’ll start my analysis with the Rapid fans, after all, they are the hosts. Before I get to the sporting aspect: the Vienna derby this time is dominated by the flood disaster that has hit the whole of Austria.

The planned charity events are strong, the only one Rapid doesn’t want to give anything to this Sunday is, of course, Austria. The green-whites have started the new season with mixed results.

That means: wins and draws alternate, and there has also been a defeat. So far, the team has followed a clear line: at home we grab all the points, but away from home we don’t really attract attention. 1-0 against the runners-up from Graz, 2-0 against Tyrol and 3-2 against RB Salzburg?
The most recent success in particular surprised many. What is definitely interesting is that Rapid were always able to score before half-time.

1-1 against Klagenfurt, 0-3 at Blau-Weiß Linz and 1-1 against Wolfsberg? No, the fans would rather not look at the away games in detail. Since it is a home game this time, I don’t need to go into it in more detail either.

One goal, two goals, three goals? If the home series continues… it should actually be four on Sunday! Admittedly, a very risky betting option, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

In the Betano app, for example, you can bet on the hosts scoring over 3.5 goals and get a great odds of 7.10! As I said: very risky, but why not catch an absolute cream day?

That’s why I’m taking a look at the direct comparison and asking: has Rapid ever scored four goals against Austria? The last time was in April 2018, so it would be time for a real massacre again.

While I’m on the subject of history, I have to mention how popular draws are in the Vienna derby. Nine of the last 13 games had no winner, and between 2019 and mid-2022 there were seven draws in a row.

After eight consecutive home games without a win, Rapid finally got back to winning ways with a 3-0 victory in February this year. Incidentally, that was also their first win since September 2019.

So Rapid have some catching up to do, but they can take heart from the fact that the bookmakers favor them with odds of 1.95 to 3.40. Strong at home and weak away? That’s exactly what applies to their opponents!

Since Austria Vienna has played more away than at home, their return is also weaker. While Wolfsberg (3:1) and LASK (2:1) were defeated at home, the three away games only yielded two points.

0:1 at Blau-Weiß Linz (they didn’t like Rapid either), 1:1 in Hartberg and 1:1 against Altach? There was exactly one goal conceded in every match! I know I suggested the Over 3.5 bet for Rapid earlier.

But of course we could also say that the home side will follow the Austria series and score exactly once. At Oddset, this would lead to odds of 2.50, but here the risk would logically be much lower.

Incidentally, Austria were not really strong away from home last season either: six of the eleven games were lost, only four were won. The eleven goals were not particularly praiseworthy either.

Not only in Vienna are people looking forward to the Allianz Stadium when Rapid and Austria face each other again. I was able to collect some interesting facts in my analysis. The common thread: both like home games but not away games.

It’s a shame that Austria will now be managed as a guest. The Rapid team is currently performing very strongly in their stadium, having won everything and also sent RB Salzburg back home with zero points.

Anyone who scores three goals against the serial champions will also have Austria, which has never played a clean sheet, under control! Since there have been few victories in recent years, I am betting on caution and predicting:

Rapid scores over 1.5 goals!
