Champions League Women, Final, Saturday, 24.05.2025 at 18:00
Ladies first, please! The Women’s Champions League final takes place in Lisbon on Saturday, with the men’s final following a week later. The finalists? They come as no surprise, especially one of them.
The glorious FC Barcelona wants to secure its fifth title in a row and, unsurprisingly, is the clear favorite. In my Arsenal Barcelona Women’s tip, I’ll reveal why I don’t expect a surprise and why I’m predicting that Barca will win despite a 0-1 handicap!
Anyone who took a look at the list of favorites before the competition started probably thought: I don’t really need to get excited about the final, because it’s obvious who will be playing for the title.
FC Barcelona has been the benchmark in women’s soccer for years. The Catalans have won the Champions League three times in the last four years. 4-0 against Chelsea, 3-2 against Wolfsburg and 2-0 against Lyon – now they are aiming for their third title in a row.
It’s hard to believe in retrospect, but the team actually lost their first Champions League game of the season 2-0 to Manchester City. A minor slip-up that was immediately corrected.
9-0 and 3-0 against Hammarby, 7-0 and 4-1 against St. Pölten, plus a 3-0 win in the second leg against City, so of course they advanced to the quarterfinals with ease. Wolfsburg didn’t stand a chance there, with Barca winning 4-1 and 6-1.
The semi-finals? That was no difficult task either. They beat Chelsea 4-1 twice. Twenty-two of the 44 goals were scored in the first half, so the haul was fairly distributed.
They have gone into the break with a half-time lead in nine games in a row and, with the exception of the City game, have not conceded a goal in the first half. Six times, the Catalans were at least two goals ahead after the first 45 minutes.
The half-time/full-time bet 2/2 could be worthwhile for you at Interwetten, with odds of 1.60 at Interwetten, the risk is not quite as high. A half-time lead for the favorites is also conceivable with odds of 1.65.
The tip “Arsenal will not score in the first half” is less profitable, however, with odds below 1.40. If you take a look at Interwetten, don’t miss out on the lucrative bonus.
New and existing customers from Germany and Austria can secure a free bet of eleven euros with the code “FINALE25.” Barcelona and Arsenal have already met twice, in 2012/13 and 2021/22.
While Arsenal had the upper hand over a decade ago (3-0 and 4-0), Barca struck back a few years later with 4-0 and 4-1 wins. Now, it’s clear to everyone that Barcelona is the absolute giant in women’s soccer.
So it will come as no surprise that the odds for victory at our ApplePay bookmakers are 1.25 to 9.50 on average. Is Arsenal inclined to give up from the outset?
I don’t want to be that pessimistic, but the players from the English capital know what they are up against. A Champions League final is also completely new territory for Arsenal.
In 2021, a team from the UK reached the final, with Chelsea losing 4-0 to Barca, who else? The road to this final has not always been easy.
In the semi-finals, the Gunners came back from a 1-2 home defeat against Olympique Lyon to win the second leg 4-1. Anyone who follows the team knows that this was not the first time they had staged a comeback.
In the previous round, they had even lost 2-0 to Real Madrid, only to come back with a 3-0 win. Arsenal had started the group stage with a disastrous 5-2 defeat to Bayern Munich, but improved impressively.
A 3-2 win in the second leg, plus victories against Juventus Turin (4-0 and 1-0) and Valerenga (4-1 and 3-1), the only criticism that can really be leveled at the English team is that their wins weren’t quite as convincing as those of the Spanish side.
Is there any way to stop FC Barcelona from winning their third consecutive Champions League title? I don’t think so! Arsenal may not have had a bad season, but Barca is simply on another level.
The favorites are incredibly well-equipped, especially in attack, with Pina leading the scoring charts with ten goals. Chelsea and Wolfsburg were dismantled in the last two rounds, and everything went smoothly in the league, of course.
Although a lot can happen in a final, I’ve decided to go the classic route here. In the case of the Barca ladies, that means:
The favorite wins with a HC of -1!
