Both Atletico Madrid and Celta Vigo could have something to celebrate this weekend. While Atletico could clinch Champions League qualification with a win, Vigo could secure relegation with a three-pointer in the capital.
Meanwhile, I expect a good away team that could cause the Rojiblancos major problems. I predict that the Olivicos will lose by a maximum of one goal.
Betting operator Sunmaker offers the best odds for this bet in the form of 1.75 odds
With their 3:1 win at home against Athletic Bilbao two weeks ago, the Colchoneros were able to make a preliminary decision in the battle for the top flight. Now the task for the remaining four games is to maintain their six-point lead in fifth place.
While there were signs of a slight crisis a few weeks ago, Simeone was able to get his team back on the road to success. Atletico have now won 4 of their last 5 games
The visitors, who were threatened by relegation for a long time, are also very likely to fulfill their mission to stay in the league. Celtina are in 15th place with 34 points and are eight points clear of the relegation zone.
Similar to the hosts, the Celtistas have also seen a clear upward trend of late. Under new coach Claudio Giraldez, Vigo have collected ten points in six games.
The two home victories against Villareal and Las Palmas in particular have shown that the Celtistas have also improved in terms of their play. Vigo have scored ten goals in their last six games
Although Atletico reached the CL quarter-finals this season and will almost certainly be in the top flight again next year, I would only classify the Rojiblancos’ season as solid.
In the big games, such as against Barcelona or Dortmund, they repeatedly showed glaring defensive deficiencies that are actually atypical for Atletico. On the other hand, the Colchoneros are now much more accurate than in previous seasons
Atletico have scored 67 goals in their 34 games so far, 27 more than their upcoming opponents. On the other hand, Atletico have just the fifth-best defense in the league with 39 goals conceded.
There is a fairly simple explanation as to why Atletico have not conceded more. Unlike at home, Griezmann and Co. have dropped too many points away from home. 46 points in front of their own fans compared to 21 away points
If we rely entirely on the odds of the bookmakers, there should be no doubt about the outcome of the match. Happybet’s odds of 1.43 for a home win clearly show who is boss in the ring.
The odds for a win for the underdog look all the more attractive. The bookmakers are offering odds of up to 7.50.
In my opinion, the bet on the “double chance X2” offers a lot of value. If Vigo take something countable, the bookmakers promise a payout of 2.9 times
For the sake of completeness, it should be mentioned that we can expect a rather high-scoring game, as 1.6 odds for the “Over 2.5 goals” betting option tell me. However, in this case I’m going to stay away from the goals market for once, as I’m not sure how defensive Vigo will be on Sunday afternoon.
In all likelihood, the Celtistas’ rather disappointing season will now come to a conciliatory end after all. In Giraldez, Vigo have finally found a coach who doesn’t just play results soccer
The fact that Molina and Depay, two key players, are out also supports my theory that this weekend’s game will not be an Atletico self-runner. Offensively, a lot will once again depend on Griezmann and Morata, who are both having a good season.
In the visitors’ attacking department, club legend Iago Aspas has recently caught my eye. The 36-year-old has scored six goals in the last three games.
But Aspas, with his 17 goals, is not the only center forward I like in the visitors’ line-up. Strand Larsen and Douvikas are also proving their scoring prowess time and again and have a combined total of 18 league goals
If we take a look at the direct comparison, we see that the Rojiblancos are clearly ahead with 76 wins from 124 meetings. Furthermore, Atletico have won all of their last five encounters with Celta Vigo.
In total, Vigo have won just one of the last 17 meetings between these two teams. However, since I don’t think too much of the direct comparison statistics, I wouldn’t overestimate this result either
Despite the good results at home, I’m not entirely convinced that Atletico will get their next home win on Sunday. In my opinion, Vigo are currently much stronger than the table suggests.
Accordingly, I think we can look forward to a balanced and exciting match. I believe that the Celtina’s recently strong offensive line will score at least one goal.
My Atletico Celta Vigo prediction is: Victory Celta Vigo with handicap + 1.5.
