Augsburg – Union Berlin Tip Bundesliga, Matchday 17 on Thursday, 15.01.2026 at 20:30 CET
If the Wolves had planned something for the new year, there was little to see of it in their first appearance in the Bundesliga. The 4-0 debacle at Borussia-Park rather suggested that the road to hell is also paved with good intentions in the case of the Bavarian Swabians.
However, the now urgently needed redemption may be favored by a particularly welcome guest: Against the Iron from the capital, there has almost always been something in it for the Fuggerstädter recently.
While FCA have picked up nine points in a row against Köpenick, the long run only ended in the last meeting to date. On the 34th matchday of the previous season, which was insignificant for both teams, Union had snatched the first away win ever in the WWK Arena.
But because the home side remains a feared opponent of the Berliners for the time being, even after this slip-up, I commit to a point split after 90 minutes in my Augsburg Union tip at a betting provider with PayPal payment function!
For Union, the draw I predicted would be tantamount to a season premiere. With three wins and four defeats, the Iron have so far managed without any points away from home this season.
From the point of view of the Red and Whites, the only point that has simply been scored in Augsburg so far has a historically valuable character.
After a 4-0 home defeat in the opening game against RB Leipzig, the Unioners picked up their very first point in their still comparatively manageable Bundesliga history in the following away game at the Bavarian Swabians in August 2019.
Augsburg – Union Berlin Prediction & Betting
Although Augsburg recently went down in Gladbach, both teams are currently in a more comparable form with a slightly different perspective.
While the Köpenickers are unbeaten for three matchdays, Augsburg have always reliably reached into the points trough, at least in the last three home games – and even got away without conceding a goal against Bremen (0-0), Leverkusen (2-0) and HSV (1-0).
Since the Berliners did not necessarily invent the shooting either, I have also noted the Under 2.5 goals on my betting slip, for which there are odds of about 1.65 at old and new betting providers.
By means of the 0:0 result bet, I drive the presumed lean diet to the top of the odds. If successful, I can finally calculate with values of around 9.50 for a zero number.
Last but not least, with the Double Chance X2, I have a supposed safety variant ready. Looking at the form shown at the weekend, a more or less successful company outing of the Iron Men seems to me to be quite presentable with a 1.50!
What you need to know about Augsburg vs. Union Berlin betting
- 1. FC Union Berlin have won just two of their 12 Bundesliga meetings against FC Augsburg (D4 L6), but one win came in the last meeting in May 2025 at Augsburg (2-1).
- In the past 24 Bundesliga seasons, only four games have taken place on a Thursday – for both FC Augsburg and Union Berlin it is the first such BL game. The last team to win its first BL match on the day was SC Freiburg in 1995 at HSV (2-1).
- FC Augsburg are playing their second-weakest Bundesliga season with 14 points after 16 games (2011/12 also 14) – only in 2012/13 were there fewer points at this point (8).
- FC Augsburg are unbeaten in three Bundesliga home games, picking up seven points (W2 D1). FCA have also kept three consecutive clean sheets – a club record that FCA last achieved in February/March 2025.
- With 22 points after 16 games, Union Berlin is playing its best Bundesliga season in three years (2022/23 even 30 points) – two years ago it was eight points less (14), last season six points less (16).
Augsburg – Union Berlin: AI Tip & Odds Analysis
If I eye the two offensive departments with undisguised suspicion, the in-house AI of the bettors obviously assumes much more optimistic assumptions.
In my opinion, a 1-1 draw is already the highest of emotions in this duel, but the Augsburg Union AI prediction is strong in the chest tone of conviction for goals on both sides – odds of 1.85.
However, even the xGoal values determined in each case only support this recommendation by a narrow margin – in both cases, the value of “1” is just barely cracked.
But if you are already willing to accept a few goals, the next tip has a certain appeal: Union finally successfully chased a deficit at the break in the 2-2 draw against Mainz.
If the Berlin opponent is now in the lead after 45 minutes in the Fugger city, there will now be 3.2 times the stake back.
Even more attractive, of course, is the AI result tip quoted, which focuses on the 1:1 final score that I have already thrown into the room at odds of “only” around 5.25.
The best odds for Augsburg vs. Union Berlin
A kingdom for the thoughts and considerations of the bookmakers, who without exception see the host Fuggerstädter in the lead when it comes to Augsburg Union odds.
Looking at the performance that has been observed so far this season, I don’t necessarily have to come to the conclusion that the match, which is so important for the Bavarian Swabians, actually ends well.
Be that as it may: Anyone who actually believes in a full three-pointer for FC Augsburg will of course still be properly served with odds of around 2.60.
The fact that FC Augsburg is beaten by the bookmakers a little above value in my estimation unfortunately only partially benefits the draw rate, which I also favor.
With values of around 3.20, the tip X for the Augsburg Union Berlin odds is even a little below the usual average. Under the given conditions, one or the other additional quota tenth would certainly not have hurt here.
If Union didn’t regularly blunder against Augsburg, I would most likely speak of value in the away odds, with which the bet placed can be almost 3-fold.
Augsburg vs Union Berlin Match Analysis:
For Augsburg, this game is a real six-point game in the relegation battle. With only a two-point lead over the relegation zone, the pressure on matchday 17 is enormous. Union Berlin may be eight points away, but they are still slight outsiders at the WWK Arena.
A look at the pure numbers shows that Augsburg is one of the weakest three teams in the league in terms of expected goals conceded. Union, on the other hand, is in the upper third of this statistic. The visitors’ defence could therefore make the decisive difference here.
The fight for possession will also be interesting. Union Berlin likes to leave the game to the opponent and has the lowest possession in the league with 37%. Augsburg is only slightly above this with 43%, but must make the game and act as hosts.
The prediction for the result is really difficult. Union have made the better start to the season, but the mixed away form makes this game a completely open affair. Anything can happen here, from a home win to an away win.
The Fuggerstädter must show a clear reaction to the last few games in order not to slip even deeper into the basement of the table. The home advantage could be the decisive factor in order to score the necessary points in the fight to stay in the league.
For Union, it is a matter of confirming the good form of the last few weeks and establishing themselves in the middle of the table. A win in Augsburg would be an important step to stay away from the lower regions in order to continue to play a carefree season.
Augsburg Form Check
Augsburg are still reeling from the weekend’s bitter 4-0 defeat against Gladbach. In this game, the Bavarian Swabians have already conceded three goals in the first half. Manuel Baum’s team has only picked up a single point from the last three games.
With only 14 points from 16 games, Augsburg are experiencing one of their weakest Bundesliga seasons of all time. Only in the 2011/12 season did they have an equally meager yield at the same time, which makes the tense situation clear.
Especially in attack, the shoe pinches enormously. The team has not scored a goal of their own in the last three Bundesliga games. This is the setting of the club’s negative record in the highest German league, which clearly shows the offensive problems.
At home, however, Augsburg are much more determined. With aggressive pressing, they often force their opponents to make mistakes. They celebrated three of their four wins this season in their home arena, which should give them courage for the duel with the Berliners.
In front of their own fans, FCA are unbeaten in three games. The Fuggerstädters won two games without conceding a goal and drew goalless against Werder Bremen. This home strength is the biggest trump card in the fight against relegation – and in the upcoming game.
This hard-fought home game against Union Berlin offers the ideal opportunity to turn things around. Even if no goal festival is expected, Augsburg must deliver here in order not to completely lose touch with the midfield.
Union Berlin Form Check
Last weekend, Union Berlin looked like a home defeat against bottom-of-the-table Mainz for a long time. But late goals from Jeong Woo-Yeong and Marin Ljubicic secured an important point for morale after a 0-2 deficit.
This point was particularly remarkable, as it was the first time in this Bundesliga season that the Iron were able to take something countable after falling behind. That shows the irrepressible will and morale that is currently in the team.
Union have collected a whopping seven points from the last three league games and are in a good position ahead of matchday 17. With 22 points from 16 games, the Köpenickers are playing their best Bundesliga season in three years and have established themselves in the middle of the table.
Coach Steffen Baumgart’s team have lost only three of their last ten games, which underlines their resilience and tactical discipline. The Irons have proven that they can manage games cleverly and use their strengths in a targeted manner.
Although Union is not known for dominant possession football, the team is extremely disciplined and punishes the mistakes of its opponents ice-cold. This direct and effective style of play makes it an unpleasant opponent for any team in the league.
Especially for a team like Augsburg, which itself has difficulties creating and converting scoring chances, the stable nature of the Berliners will be a huge challenge. Union will lie in wait for any carelessness.
