Australia national team coach Graham Arnold has resigned in the crucial qualifying phase for the 2026 World Cup. This was announced by the association on Friday morning. “After careful consideration, I believe it is time for new leadership to take the team forward,” said the 61-year-old, who took over the Socceroos in July 2018 and led them to the knockout stage of the 2022 World Cup. He holds the record for the longest tenure of any coach in the country, having held the position for six years. His team got off to a slow start in the decisive third round of Asian World Cup qualifiers at the beginning of September with a 1-0 loss to Bahrain and a 0-0 draw with Indonesia.
