A wind of change is blowing through Istanbul again – even if Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and Besiktas are not playing! Basaksehir represents Turkey and enters the competition on Wednesday.
The opponent is traveling from Vienna, with the slight underdog role in tow. But: in my opinion, there is a lot in it for both teams! In my Basaksehir SK Rapid betting tip, I will now reveal more details about the game and also explain why I would bet on a BTS here.
International success for Basaksehir? Not really! The Turkish club is overshadowed by its big city rivals, but in recent years, the name has appeared again and again in the lists.
This is also the case in 2024/25, with Basaksehir looking to cause a stir in the Conference League. The European path already began in the second round of qualifying, so we have a lot to analyze.
With La Fiorita, Iberia 1999 and St. Pat’s, the opponents, to be honest, were definitely not among the most difficult. And yet, it takes something to get five wins and a draw.
6:1 and 4:0, 1:0 and 2:0, and 0:0 and 2:0? It actually got tighter and tighter from round to round, but at the same time there were many moments in which the defense excelled.
Rapid Vienna is certainly an opponent that is significantly better than the aforementioned trio. Therefore, it might be more helpful to look at the results against their Süper Lig rivals.
1:1 against Rizespor and 0:2 against Samsunspor? Not everyone can explain why exactly these two opponents were beaten. The other four duels ended in victory.
Admittedly, neither Galatasaray nor Fenerbahce, Besiktas or Trabzonspor have been on the opposite side, so nobody at Basaksehir rates what they have seen too highly.
4:2, 5:2, 1:0 and 2:1? If we take the games they didn’t win, which ended 1:1 and 0:2, it is noticeable that the defense is anything but flawless and that the many clean sheets in the CL qualifiers can perhaps be attributed more to the weak opponents.
The bottom line is that all home games have been won in both the league and the Conference League qualifiers, so the team should not lack self-confidence before the match against Rapid.
Incidentally, they have not played each other yet, only in the 2019/20 season did they face teams from Austria. These two brought the results 1-0 and 3-0 against Wolfsberger AC.
Historically, there was no reason for the bookmakers to see Basaksehir ahead. So have the odds in the range of 2.10 to 3.40 been based purely on how both clubs are currently doing?
Rapid Vienna is playing against a Turkish team for the 21st time, and so far it has always been Besiktas, Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and Trabzonspor on the other side. Ten wins, two draws and eight defeats, the previous record is slightly positive.
For Rapid, the European adventure started in the second qualifying round, but we’re talking about the Europa League here. The opponents sounded more impressive here! After the victories (2:1 and 6:1) against Wisla Krakow, Trabzonspor was already a Süper Lig representative.
1:0 and 2:0, the Austrians hardly allowed anything! And so the path had to end in a very bitter way, the strong Braga was only a little better at 1:2 and 2:2.
The Conference League should be more than just a consolation prize for the green-whites, who are currently in second place in the Austrian Bundesliga behind champions Sturm Graz. Although they have only lost once in the league so far, I still recognize a negative pattern.
Two draws and one defeat? They haven’t won away from home in the Bundesliga! The two away wins in the EL Quali were as close as possible.
Can Rapid Vienna cause a stir in Istanbul? The green-whites prefer to play at home, but they should at least get a point away from home to start the Conference League.
The Rapid players are basically in good form, but I could also see that on the Basaksehir side. Especially at home, the hosts collect results that instill fear in their opponents.
In terms of offense, both teams have sufficient potential, but since they are no longer regulars in Europe, I still expect defensive mistakes. So my tip is logical:
