The United Arab Emirates released coach Paulo Bento from his duties as national team coach on Wednesday. The day before, the Portuguese had celebrated a last-minute victory against North Korea with his team, thus keeping alive hopes of direct qualification for the 2026 World Cup. The 55-year-old had been the coach of the Eyal Zayed since 2023, and they will now play the remaining qualifiers with a new coach.
