In 2023/24, the cup had to save the messed-up season in the Süper Lig – it could be the same this season! Defending champion Besiktas is facing the quarterfinals in the Türkiye Kupasi, anything other than a win on Thursday would be very disappointing.
The opponent is a promoted team that is brutally strong at home, but thank God they are playing at Vodafone Park. In my Besiktas Göztepe betting tip, I will now tell you why I expect a close game and therefore recommend the “both teams to score” bet.
24 points behind the leaders – not again! Besiktas is again unable to keep up with Galatasaray and Fenerbahce this season, and is struggling to finish at least third.
Four wins, two losses, the last few weeks have been mixed. Nobody really understood how, after nine games without a defeat, they could suddenly lose 1-2 to Gaziantep and 0-1 to Konyaspor.
And just when many people suspected the next crisis, the eagles struck with a real bang: they won 2-1 against Galatasaray! If the season ends unsuccessfully, they could at least be the only team to have beaten the record champions.
Of course, only in the event that Gala can now avoid further defeats. But how does Besiktas deal with this victory, does it inspire or make the upcoming appearances even more difficult?
The team is the defending champion in the Türkiye Kupasi, winning the 2024 final against Trabzonspor 3-2. Since 2006, they have reached the final four at least seven times – and in six of those cases, they also lifted the trophy!
Not a bad record, since 2008 there were only two quarter-final exits. In the group stage, Besiktas managed three rather narrow victories. 1-0 against Sivasspor, 2-0 against Kirklarelispor and 2-1 against Antalyaspor, here they went for minimalism.
Besiktas have suffered three home defeats in the league, so it is basically an advantage that the current quarter-finals are being held at home. However, there has only been one win at the Vodafone Park since October, and that would have been more comfortable with a lead of more than one goal.
What about Göztepe, are they perhaps a bogey team? In the first half of the season, we lost 2-4, but that was only our third defeat since 2002.
2-4, 0-0, 2-1, 2-1, 3-0, 1-0 and 5-1, these are the results Besiktas have achieved at home since Göztepe started appearing regularly in the Süper Lig. It is therefore no surprise that our bookies with PayPal function see the home side leading with odds of 1.80 to 4.40.
Göztepe, who were only promoted last year, have actually been a really strong team this season. They are sixth, but: nevertheless, the gap to the first relegation place is only eight points!
It’s crazy how more than half the league is afraid of slipping back down. The yellow-reds have now been without a win in eight league games, but have at least managed to get a point in three of the last four.
They have a very big problem: home and away games are turning out much too differently. At home, the club has only lost once, defending really well with only ten goals conceded.
Away from home, however, they have only one measly win to their name, having already conceded 25 goals. The one win, as I mentioned earlier, was against Besiktas some time ago.
Somehow, however, the team must have made it into this cup quarter-final and lo and behold, three of four rounds were played away from home. While Bucaspor (4-0) and Erzurumspor (1-0) were not yet on a par, the victories against Gaziantep (1-0) and Kasimpasa (5-0) were all the more pleasing.
In fact, Göztepe is still keeping a clean sheet. The cup history reveals in conclusion: the club has NEVER made it to the last four in the Türkiye Kupasi!
Besiktas has not been in the running for the championship for a long time, so at least the cup could be the consolation prize. After the derby victory against Galatasaray, the team could be well motivated.
However, they recently lost to Göztepe, and the guests only won against Besiktas away from home. But: strangely enough, they are doing better in the cup, where they also achieve easy victories away from home.
I therefore expect us to see a very interesting and entertaining game. In my opinion, Göztepe are by no means without chances, so I am betting on:
