Switching sides, let’s look at Atletico. The Rojiblancos have improved their play without neglecting their great defense.
Diego Simeone’s team have conceded the third most goals in La Liga (17.3 xG) and still boast the best defense in the Spanish top flight (7.9 xGA).
As in many years before, the Colchoneros have problems when they have to play outside their Metropolitana.
Atletico sit unbeaten in third place in the table, but have already shared the points three times away from home (2S).
The Madrilenians find it much more difficult to attack away from the Spanish capital, scoring just six goals in five appearances.
At least Simeone’s defensive structure has held up almost as well as at the Metropolitana (4 goals conceded).
The Rojiblancos drew 2-2 at Villarreal at the start of the season. Their four subsequent appearances as visitors all contained “under 2.5 goals”.
I also find it impressive that Atleti finished half of their league games without conceding a goal. The Rojiblancos owe a big thank you to Jan Oblak, who has the best record in the league with 80.6 percent of shots saved.

On a good day, both keepers can drive opposing strikers crazy and give their team the support that many teams desperately want.
