Bundesliga 29th matchday, Saturday, 12/04/2025 at 3:30 pm
The third-last home game of the season for Bochum is coming up, with FC Augsburg as the guests. It’s a game in which the club from the Ruhr area is of course hoping to get some much-needed points. But that will be quite a difficult task against one of the strongest teams of the year in terms of form.
The long series without conceding a goal of the Fuggerstadt was already torn against Hoffenheim. Recently, the record champions also missed their first defeat in eleven games.
Whether the Bavarian Swabians are now completely out of sync? I doubt it, but I assume that the hosts will score at least one goal in such an important game, but still not burn fireworks against the compact defense.
Therefore, I decide on a bet on one or two Bochum goals at the betting provider Betano, which I put together with the Bet Builder.
Yes, it will be a goal bet again… But honestly, you’re used to that from me anyway and it’s been going really well recently. March was my most successful month of the year so far!
Otherwise, I had a hard time finding betting alternatives. At least that’s how I felt about the 1X2 market for this match, because anything could happen here.
The betting providers’ forecast
But our betting providers are no different. Bochum is assigned the slightly lower win rate than Augsburg (2.95) at 2.47. We get 3.25 for the draw, so there is not much of a gap between the individual selections.
Since I can imagine anything, I still find the double chance X2 at 1.57 the most attractive. This means that we cover two events at once and we must not forget: only Bayern and Stuttgart were able to beat our southern German colleagues in 2025.
AI Prediction Bochum vs. Augsburg: That’s what ChatGPT tips
But ChatGPT takes the opposite view here, namely suggesting the double chance 1X instead. But firstly, the odds are too low for me here and secondly, I don’t see any strong arguments. Bochum have only won three games at home, and recently conceded three defeats in a row.
What’s more, those three home games were only good for two own goals. The AI has come up with better than that. Let’s see if it offers more interesting betting suggestions in the medium and high-risk areas.
On the one hand, we have the under 2.5-goal mark, and I think the odds of 1.82 are much better. Why? Bochum have a poor offense – and Augsburg haven’t exactly been playing well lately either.
And then there’s the selection that Augsburg wins without conceding a goal. We’re already in the five-to-one odds range, but ultimately I’m betting against it with at least one goal for Bochum!
Analysis: Bochum vs. Augsburg
I don’t think there will be more than two Bochum goals. So I see the 1-2 goals for Bochum as a better “Bochum scores” selection, for which we only get odds of 1.29 at Betano and Co. The net profit is twice as high with this limitation!
I recommended the 1-2 goal bet for the Gunners in the Everton v Arsenal game last weekend too – and the game actually ended 1-1. Such bets are always a good idea for games that are likely to be close.
Especially if both teams are not expected to score. And I certainly don’t want to have to rely on both teams scoring against Bochum against Augsburg. After all, we are talking about the teams with the third and fourth-fewest goals scored this season.
And the other offensive statistics don’t impress me either. Augsburg is at the bottom of the league in terms of shots on target; Bochum, meanwhile, is struggling with a disastrous chance conversion rate of 5.9 percent.
But: When Bochum has recently made it onto the scoreboard, it has always been one or two goals in five of the last six matches. Only the completely surprising 3-2 away win at the friendly club from Munich stands out.
Odds analysis
In addition to the 1-2-goal bet, Betano has an enormous selection of bets in every sport, and the odds are also attractive. New customers are also welcomed with a free bet of 20 euros before they make their first deposit.
On top of that, you can get your hands on up to 80 euros in bonus cash. One thing that makes me feel positive about the home team is the absence of Cedric Zesiger, the Augsburg center-back who was sent off against Bayern last week.
Despite the fact that I expect Bochum to score, I am still more in favor of the double chance X2. This contrast means that we get a whopping 2.50 odds in the bet builder, much more lucrative than the 1.70 for both teams to score!
Bochum vs. Augsburg: One-sided first leg
Augsburg won the first direct duel of this season 1-0, but the difference in performance on the pitch was not reflected in the result. Only the FCA played, VfL was not able to create a single big chance.
Philipp Tietz remained the only scorer with his goal in the 38th minute. Since not many goals are expected, we find very high goal scorer odds. The 3.00 for Alexis Claude-Maurice is still the lowest, followed by Myron Boadu (3.25) and Giorgos Masouras (3.50).
While Augsburg suffered their first defeat since January against Bayern last week, Bochum conceded their third defeat in a row against Stuttgart. A 1-3 loss against Frankfurt was followed by a 1-3 loss against Leverkusen and then a 0-4 loss against VfB.
The last time they kept a clean sheet was the 2-0 win against Dortmund two months ago; in addition to the home win by the same scoreline against St. Pauli, this was the only clean sheet this year.
Three-goal average in Bochum against Augsburg
Incidentally, the first leg was the tenth game between the two teams. The balance is still pretty even. Bochum won half of the matches, Augsburg three and twice the points were shared.
As low-scoring as this matchup might suggest, it often wasn’t. On average, we were offered three goals per game. At the league level, the men in blue and white have only won once, in 2023. Last season, the game in the Ruhrpott Stadium ended 1-1.
A 0-0 was not even on the cards yet, I think it’s very unlikely this time too. Above all, I expect a committed performance from the hosts, who urgently need points in the relegation battle, especially as it is already the third-last home game of the season.
And at the same time, the guests know about Bochum’s fatal defensive situation, having conceded ten goals in three games. In addition, not only is Augsburg missing an important man at the back with Zesiger, Bochum are also weakened by the absence of Bernardo.
My Bochum Augsburg Tip:
Is Bochum unbeatable against Augsburg? At least the 1X2 market, because I can imagine just about anything here, but not too many Bochum goals due to Augsburg’s strong defensive numbers.
VfL has scored 1-2 goals in five of the last six games. I expect the same number in the important match on Saturday. Whether it will be enough for points in the end remains to be seen, but it doesn’t matter for my bet…
Bochum scores 1-2 goals!
