Monday evening in the Premier League is all about the coastal derby. The Cherries host the Saints.
While the home side have lost their last two matches, the visitors at least drew the previous week.
Who will come out on top in this first coastal derby of the season? My Bournemouth Southampton betting tip provides the answers.
For more than a few, the Cherries were considered one of the insider tips for international business before this season. I never trusted this roast.
The departure of star striker Dominic Solanke, who moved to Tottenham Hotspur, is something I don’t think they can compensate for. That was also evident recently.
In the last two matches against Chelsea and Liverpool, they have not been able to score a single goal.
If we include the EFL Cup game against West Ham, AFC have scored in just one of their last four competitive games. In the league, they now face the threat of three consecutive clean sheets for the first time since the end of 2022/23.
However, the visitors are struggling with themselves first. They are still waiting for their first three-pointer of the season (1U, 4N).
At the same time, this haul of just one point from five games is the weakest since 1998/99, when the Saints failed to score at all. So there is always a ray of hope.
However, the visitors have not won in the Premier League for 18 away games (5U, 13N). For me, a clear sign of who is the favorite here.
However, caution is advised. One thing in the hosts’ favor is that their performance in the recent 3-0 defeat to Liverpool was better than the result suggests.
They certainly had their moments going forward. Despite the defeat, they fired in 19 shots. No team has had more attempts at Anfield Road since detailed data was recorded in 2003/04.
On the other hand, however, I would describe the Saints as a fearful opponent for the Cherries. After all, they haven’t scored against them in four home games in all competitions.
However, oddsmakers like Intertops think it is very unlikely that the streak will be extended.
You’ll find odds of over 6.00 for your Bournemouth Southampton bet at this point, while it’s more likely that the visitors won’t score (2.80).
And speaking of fearful opponents: Martin Russel’s men are unbeaten in five league games at the Vitality Stadium (3S, 2U).
But the Cherries’ home record is quite respectable. Four wins, three draws and just two defeats across the season. They’ve only failed to score in one of those nine matches.
So if you’re going with the Saints, I’d advise you to keep an eye on the double chance bets. These are known to minimize the risk.
For the Bournemouth Southampton betting tip, you can find odds of just over 2.00 at Bet365 sports betting if the visitors don’t lose.
But a lot has to come together for that to happen. I think the hosts are better players, but derbies are always a tricky affair.
So I can well imagine that neither of them will want to make the first mistake. Also because the Cherries have lost five of their last seven Monday games (1S, 1U).
In this respect, my Bournemouth Southampton tip is for a low-scoring game: There will be less than four goals!
