Europa League, League phase, Wednesday, 10/23/2024 at 4:45 pm
Another international week! In our UEFA Europa League tips, my attention is now turning to Portugal, where the action starts again on Wednesday – at the relatively unusual time of 4:30 p.m.
The guests are traveling from Norway and, although they got off to a great start, they are in the role of the underdog for now. In my Braga Bodö/Glimt betting tip, I will therefore tell you why the guests should not be underestimated and why I am betting on “both teams to score”.
Bodö/Glimt? No longer an unknown name in Europe! The Norwegians have caused a stir or two in recent years, with teams like AS Roma stumbling over Bodö.
The team would love to make a name for themselves in the new group stage of the Europa League, and in a positive way. And why shouldn’t that work out, when they got off to a great start with a 3-2 win over Porto!
Bodö didn’t let the early goal against shock them; two goals and an assist from Jens Petter Hauge put them in a comfortable position. The 2-3 was only cosmetic in the end.
An incredibly strong performance, even though the Scandinavian club had to play with ten men after 50 minutes. But of course I have to say: FC Porto tried 28 times!
The 3-2 win was a combination of efficiency, luck and passion. We know that Bodö have been very offensive in recent years, so it was all the more surprising that there were no goals in the second game of the competition.
The game against Royale Union ended 0-0. From a Norwegian perspective, they were happy with that, because they only managed a single shot on target. 3:2 and 0:0, the two appearances really couldn’t have been more different.
The team that almost made it into the Champions League (against Red Star Belgrade there were the results 2:1 and 0:2 in the playoffs) is already in the final phase in the domestic league.
Last Saturday, they played out a goalless draw for the first time since May, and for only the second time this season. 0-0 against Tromso after a 4-0 win over Kristiansund.
It’s the same as in the Europa League, anything is possible. All three defeats were away from home, so it’s certainly not an advantage that the clash with Sporting Braga on Wednesday is away from home.
The two teams have never played against each other. In the 3-2 defeat to Porto, Bodö played a club from Portugal for the first time ever, so that’s a good omen.
The Norwegians will also be able to cope with the fact that they are the underdogs in the encounter, with average odds of 4.20 to 1.80, because hardly anyone expected a win against Porto either.
Braga had started with a 2-1 win against Maccabi Tel Aviv. With 31 shots on target, this result may sound like a deserved win, but at the same time, the team also managed to win, scoring in minutes 88 and 90+5 – and that too from the penalty spot!
When Olympiakos Piraeus came along as the next opponents, this time away, the party atmosphere was over. The score was 0-3, which not everyone had expected in such clarity. How is Sporting doing in the Primeira Liga?
Last weekend, the cup was on the program first. They won 2-1 at SU Dezembro – with the winning goal coming in the sixth minute of stoppage time!
It’s also interesting to note that Braga played against Porto in the last league game. They lost 2-1… and Bodö/Glimt won 3-2 against the same club! Since the Portuguese have won 50% of their league games, they are by no means invincible.
What’s next for Bodö/Glimt and Sporting Braga? In the Europa League, neither has yet decided which style they want to follow. A duel on equal terms? I can’t really say no to that question.
The Norwegians have already beaten FC Porto 3-2, so it was a real surprise. At the same time, Braga recently conceded a clear 0-3 defeat against Olympiakos Piräus. Does that help us in terms of a favorite? Probably not!
That’s why I decided against a 1×2 bet. Instead, I’m betting that both will try to score and that the following tip could therefore be accurate:
Both teams to score!
