La Liga, Matchday 33 on Wednesday, 23.04.2025 at 19:00
Celta Vigo has recently lost ground in the race for European places. They have not picked up any points from their last two games, although they almost managed to get something out of the game against league leaders Barca. Now they have their next home game coming up. The “Yellow Submarine” is the visiting team.
And they have the upper hand this season, heading for a direct Champions League spot. In my Celta Vigo Villarreal prediction, I expect a competitive game, so I’m going for both teams to score with Interwetten.
Is Celta Vigo against Villarreal a six-point game? I would say a small one. After all, there are already nine points between fifth and eighth place before the 33rd matchday. Nevertheless, RC can still get back into contention with three points.
Celta has slightly lower odds of winning with our betting providers that have a German license. But at 2.50, we can’t talk about them being favorites. Villarreal (2.75) is only slightly above that. We get 3.45 for a draw.
That’s how I see the starting position too. Villarreal has a good record of four unbeaten games with two wins, and Celta almost upset Barcelona but ended up empty-handed against both Catalan clubs after losing to Espanyol (0-2).
Against Hansi Flick’s team, the visitors were even leading 3-1 at one point, but within a few minutes they conceded the equalizer at the Olympic Stadium in the capital and finally conceded the 3-4 in stoppage time.
The offense wasn’t bad against Espanyol either, and the zero goals didn’t reflect their performance. That’s why I definitely have a goal on my list for the team that went unbeaten in the eight league games before that and is now knocking on the door again.
They are currently in eighth place, which is only enough for Conference League qualification. Mallorca’s seventh place is a little more coveted, as it is enough for direct entry into the Europa League.
Like the Premier League, La Liga has been given a fifth Champions League spot by UEFA. Much to the delight of FC Villarreal, who are currently in fifth place.
One thing is clear this season. Thanks to their defenses, the clubs are not mixing it up at the top. Villarreal and Celta are the two teams in the upper half of the table with the most goals conceded, but they have been busy scoring, especially Villarreal.
They drew 2-2 against Real Sociedad last weekend. Interestingly, that was the fourth match I predicted in a short space of time for San Sebastian. All four recommended odds were spot on.
Three times a Sociedad goal was part of the bet and each time Mikel Oyarzabal scored from the spot. Will I now manage a second successful Villarreal bet in a row?
I’m not going for the high odds, but that’s also because we’re still getting decent odds for both teams to score, which is pretty likely. I also find the 1.59 for a goal in both halves from VBET quite interesting.
There’s an attractive new customer bonus waiting for you there, which will double your credit up to 100 euros. But you can also get started here without making a deposit. You’ll receive a 5-euro free bet as a welcome gift.
If these odds are a little too lax for you, you could also consider a combination bet, combining both teams to score with “Over 2.5 goals.” Personally, I find the overall odds jump a little too small, which is why I prefer to hedge my bets with a 1-1 draw.
In addition to the numerous goals we’ve already seen, I’m also confident because Villarreal and Celta Vigo have the most shots on goal in the league after top clubs Real Madrid and Barca.
Oh, and then there are the head-to-head matches. Both teams have won five games in a row. The first leg was the most exciting of the series, with Villarreal winning 4-3 in a seven-goal spectacle with a whopping 44 shots (!).
The last match in Vigo (3-2) was a similar shootout. The hosts have a full squad to choose from. Villarreal are missing Pape Gueye, who is suspended, as well as Tajon Buchanan and Ilias Akhmoach.
Villarreal have not won any of their last three away games against the Celestes, but have scored eight times in a row. The 1.25 for the visitors to score seems like good combination betting material for Wednesday, when there are a few games taking place despite the break in international action.
Fittingly, the Yellow Submarine is the second-strongest team in the league away from home. Only Barca has scored more goals on the road. However, Celta Vigo has lost only four games at home, while Villarreal has lost only four away.
Conclusion: The teams have already acted according to the motto “attack is the best form of defense” in their previous encounters. The teams had 44 shots on goal in the first meeting of the season. I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of it happening again.
The men in sky blue jerseys lost 3-4 to Barca at the weekend, and the 2-2 draw at Sociedad was no fluke!
I expect a tough battle for three important points in the race for European places.
Therefore, my Celta Vigo Villarreal prediction is: Both teams to score!
