Premier League, Friday, 16.05.2025 at 21:15
As a Manchester United fan, you’ve only had one wish for weeks: that this terrible 2024/25 season finally comes to an end. The Red Devils are staggering towards the final whistle, with the threat of finishing bottom of the table looming.
The proud club on the brink of the abyss, with the underdog role once again thrust upon them for their trip to the capital. In my Chelsea Manchester United betting tip, I unfortunately can’t give the fans much hope either, so I’m betting on a home win by more than 1.5 goals.
How do you start an analysis of Manchester United in spring 2025? The season summaries, they are drawn, and for the Red Devils you can really only thank the three promoted teams.
Southampton, Leicester and Ipswich go straight back down together. Had this trio not performed so poorly (eleven wins between them), United might have found themselves in a real relegation battle.
Ten wins, nine draws and 17 defeats, 42:53 goals, it’s a record of horror. BUT: Somehow, this team still managed to qualify for the Europa League final.
With Lyon and Athletic Bilbao, they have by no means knocked any small names out of the competition. The final will be against Tottenham Hotspur – yes, that’s right, against the club that is even BELOW Manchester in the Premier League!
In this respect, I assume that the full concentration will be placed on this one game, because, you may not believe it in view of the league results, direct qualification for the Champions League is actually possible.
The Red Devils, on the other hand, seem to be giving up on the Premier League. Two points from the last seven games, two wins from the last 13 rounds, only Leicester and Ipswich beaten in this period, that does not meet their own expectations at all.
The players have also been marching into the break with a deficit for three games. Accordingly, you can bet on Chelsea leading after the first 45 minutes on Friday.
At Merkur Bets, the corresponding odds move up to 1.77. The Merkur Bets bonus also gives you the opportunity to collect a free bet of up to 40 euros as a new customer.
With a measly four wins, United are behaving like a relegated team away from home. Who has won less often? Only the three teams that are already planning for the Championship. The Red Devils have conceded four goals in two of their last three away games.
Can I at least offer some encouragement from a historical perspective that Chelsea can be beaten on Friday? Two defeats from the last 16 duels does indeed read promising.
But: At the same time, they haven’t won at Stamford Bridge in four games. I don’t attach too much importance to the direct comparison, because Man United have probably never been as bad as they are now.
If you take a look at our ApplePay bookmakers, you’ll find corresponding odds. From the visitors’ point of view, an average of 8.25 meets 1.35. The visitors’ fans will probably only be able to smile wearily at this.
The Blues, on the other hand, still have two goals for the season. Firstly, the Londoners play in the Conference League final against Betis Sevilla, but then the Champions League is also on the agenda.
In other words, qualification should be achieved. Man City are fourth on 65 points, Chelsea and Aston Villa are on 63, Nottingham have 62 points – but only fourth and fifth will get the ticket.
Villa have Chelsea safely in their pocket on goal difference, but only if they don’t end up with fewer points. The recent 2-0 defeat to Newcastle really hurt, it was their first loss in almost three months.
Where? Away from home, of course, as the Blues have only won one game away from home since the beginning of December. Good that they are now back at home. Seven wins and one draw – Chelsea can be satisfied with that.
They have scored in the second half in eight of their last nine home games. Interesting, because if you want to bet on a goal in the second half against United, the odds aren’t even 1.30! So you’ll have to up the ante and place an “Over 1.5 goals” to get 2.25.
Eyes closed and through, there can be no other credo for Manchester United in the Premier League. Before the Europa League final, the most important thing is that nobody gets injured, as de Ligt, Zirkzee and Dalot have already done.
I have to be honest: For me, there’s nothing to be said for a point on Friday. United have also deteriorated defensively once again. Chelsea, on the other hand, desperately need the points to keep their CL place.
The Londoners are doing well at home at the moment and the results are good. That’s why I’ve decided to recommend the following tip:
Chelsea to win by over 1.5 goals
