Cologne – Dortmund Tip Bundesliga, Matchday 25 on Saturday, 07.03.2026 at 18:30 CET
Borussia Dortmund have had a pretty bad week – and no longer have much plans for the current season. Because Dortmund lost two games in a row for the first time under Niko Kovac, the Champions League and the mini-chance of winning the trophy have been put to rest in one fell swoop.
Compared to the goats, however, the Westphalians are of course still in gold, in the course of a creeping decline, the Rhenish promoted team has now almost reached a relegation place.
There is no improvement in sight on Saturday evening either. The Effzeh has lost all six top games so far in 2025/26. The last four duels against Dortmund have all gone wrong, with not even a goal of honour coming around in the last three matches.
At least such a goal should now be within reach on the 25th Bundesliga matchday, in the result of my Cologne BVB prediction I have definitely bet on the combination of “Over 2.5 goals & both teams to score”.
So far this season, no team has collected more clean sheets than the Black Yellows; beyond the beloved Signal Iduna Park, however, there has hardly been a completely impeccable working day of the defensive department to be seen in recent months.
Such a goal is now likely to be difficult to achieve in the Rhein-Energie-Arena, as it is well known that there is always a lot going on in the Cologne player’s home games – although this is not always necessarily an advantage for the home side.
Cologne – Dortmund Prediction & Betting
If you like it a little more classic, the victory for Dortmund is a logical choice. BVB have won the last four direct duels against Cologne and have conceded only one goal. The quality in the Dortmund squad is simply undeniably higher.
Another option that I find really interesting is to bet on Dortmund to score more than 1.5 goals – odds of currently around 1.63. Niko Kovac’s troops have always scored at least twice in the last ten league games, even against defensive bulwarks like Bayern or Leipzig.
And for the gamblers among you: Keep an eye on Serhou Guirassy. The BVB striker has netted six times in the last seven games. The bookmakers see a chance of over 54% that he will strike again against the shaky Cologne defence, which ultimately doubles the stake.
What you need to know about Cologne vs. BVB betting
- Cologne have lost three of their last four games and have averaged only 0.67 points per game since the beginning of November.
- Dortmund are unbeaten in eight league games away from home and have scored at least two goals in five of their last six games on foreign turf.
- BVB have won the last four duels against Cologne, three of them without conceding a goal.
- Cologne’s Ragnar Ache and Said El Mala are among the top 11 in the league in terms of expected goals (xG) per 90 minutes.
Cologne – Dortmund: AI Tip & Odds Analysis
I once fired up our in-house analysis tool to see what the numbers say. The AI forecast clearly supports the visitors’ role as favourites. The calculated probability of a Dortmund victory is a whopping 56.1 percent, which corresponds to a fair odd of about 1.78.
An away win therefore has value with currently available odds of around 1.80; if you think a victory for Borussia is likely, you can’t go wrong with a “Tip 2” in any case.
A draw is estimated at 22.2%, while a home win for Cologne is considered rather unlikely at 21.7%. This is a clear statement, which is also reflected in the Cologne Dortmund betting odds of the bookies.
The prediction of goals is particularly exciting. The algorithm calculates a total of 2.9 goals in the match, with Dortmund at 1.83 expected goals and Cologne at 1.07. This underpins my main tip that we will see goals on both sides – the BTS, meanwhile, is only quoted at just under 1.60.
For the experts among you, the Asian Handicap Line is certainly also interesting. This is at Dortmund -0.75 at odds of almost exactly 2.00. This means that you win the bet in full if BVB wins by at least two goals. In the event of a narrow victory, there is at least half the profit.
For over-goals, the Asian Handicap Line for over-goals is set at 3.25. So here you need at least four hits in the game for the full bet. With exactly three goals, half of the stake is returned, which secures the bet somewhat.
The Cologne Dortmund odds clearly point to a victory for the guests, but also offer enough room for betting on goals. The combination of Dortmund’s offensive power and Cologne’s home strength in scoring promises a lot of action and good betting opportunities.
The best odds for Cologne vs. Dortmund
The Cologne BVB odds have a lot to offer to all those who think a liberation blow by the hosts in the basement of the table is conceivable. With values of about 3.25, the long-awaited fifth home win is attractively quoted.
The draw is also quite well above the usual average with odds of 4.25. The attractive offers in each case mean that Double Chance 1X also has a lot to offer in terms of ratings in this pairing.
However, the aforementioned Double Chance 1X with odds of around 2.00 would only pay out attractively at first glance. At least our AI is convinced that an odd of 2.25 would be appropriate for these two options.
In this case, the favourite tip therefore has a better risk-reward ratio to offer. Odds for a victory for Borussia Dortmund that are scratching the 1.8 mark are quite lucrative here.
Cologne vs BVB Match Analysis:
For the Cologne team, there is a hell of a lot at stake in their own stadium on Saturday. After a really bad run, points against BVB are almost mandatory in order not to completely lose touch in the relegation battle. The goats urgently need to improve.
The Domstadt team is currently in 13th place in the table, but the situation is deceptive. Another defeat against Dortmund could quickly drop them to 16th place in the relegation zone, which would increase the pressure on coach Kwasniok’s team even further.
On the other hand, BVB also have to get back on track after a tough week. The exit in the Champions League against Atalanta and the bitter defeat against arch-rivals Bayern have left their mark. A win is now extremely important for morale.
The championship dreams have been shattered, but qualification for the premier class is the declared minimum goal. With an eight-point lead over fifth place, Dortmund have a good cushion, but Niko Kovac’s team must not rest on their laurels.
The direct record speaks for itself: The last four duels have all gone to the Black and Yellows. In the first leg at Signal Iduna Park, however, BVB struggled to a late 1-0 victory, which Maximilian Beier only secured deep in injury time.
At that time, Dortmund dominated the game with 70% possession and nine shots on goal, while Cologne did not have a single shot on goal. It will be exciting to see whether the Effzeh can deliver a more courageous performance at home.
Cologne Form Check
Cologne go into the decisive phase of the season with a lot of pressure on the kettle. After 24 games, 24 points are on the books, which is respectable for a promoted team, but does not mean security in the relegation battle.
The recent 2-0 defeat at the direct rivals from Augsburg was a bitter damper on the hopes of staying in the league. This result has raised serious questions about the team’s current form and defensive stability.
The form curve of Kwasniok’s team is pointing downwards at exactly the wrong time. Three of the last four games have been lost, and since the beginning of November, the Effzeh has averaged only a meagre 0.67 points per game, which is an alarming figure.
In the last 15 league games, only Heidenheim has a worse record than Cologne. This means that at least eleven points must be gained from the remaining games in order to secure relegation on their own. This will be a mammoth task.
In the rest of the program, important six-point games against Bremen and St. Pauli still await, but the penultimate game against Heidenheim could become the absolute final, if the competition is not already beaten by then. So excitement is guaranteed.
Dortmund Form Check
For Borussia Dortmund, the dreams of the Meisterschale seem to be over after the 3-2 defeat in the classic against Bayern last weekend. The gap is simply too big to make up in the remaining games.
This defeat, sealed by a late winner by Joshua Kimmich in the 87th minute, was the bitter end to a messed up week. BVB had already failed in the Champions League against Atalanta Bergamo, which further depressed the mood.
Since Dortmund have already been eliminated from the DFB Cup, the only remaining goal for the last ten games of the season is to secure a place in the top four. The cushion of eight points to fifth place provides some calm.
Despite the recent setbacks, BVB have proven to be an extremely difficult team to beat this season. The only two defeats in the league were both narrowly conceded with only a one-goal difference against the record champions from Munich.
The team’s self-confidence is particularly high away from home. Dortmund have remained unbeaten in their last eight league games away from home. In five of the last six away games away from Signal Iduna Park, the team has scored at least two goals.
