Premier League, international competition for a number of teams and now the EFL Cup? It really isn’t boring on the island these weeks! The best teams will be competing in the EFL Cup in the coming days.
That includes Spurs, of course, who travel to Birmingham. In my Coventry Tottenham betting tip, I’ll try to correctly assess the underdogs and tell you why I think the “Both teams to score” bet is a good one
Tottenham Hotspur’s big wish for the 2024/25 season is to win the title, but if it doesn’t work out in the league, then in one of the cup competitions. They have only reached the final of the EFL Cup twice since 2009.
Early embarrassments? They can certainly happen, as last year they were eliminated in the 2nd round. Admittedly, it was Fulham FC, and a defeat after a penalty shoot-out can happen and is not that embarrassing
Spurs have played four rounds in the Premier League so far and the results could well be better. They started with a 1:1 draw against promoted Leicester, where they were already aiming for a win.
In the 4-0 win against Everton, everything that didn’t work in the 2-1 defeat against Newcastle worked. Arsenal were also a little too strong at 0:1. What can you learn from these four matches?
In the last two matches there was virtually no scoring at all, because the goal in the defeat against Newcastle was scored by the opposition. And as successful as the 4-0 win against Everton was, the opponents here are in the red lantern, having conceded 13 goals.
In this respect, the Londoners are probably already aware that the start to the season has been anything but exhilarating. In comparison: A year ago, they started with eight wins and two draws, which sounds much better
However, since four of the last six rounds have ended without a point, a successful start is not always half the battle for a satisfactory final position.
After all, they now face an opponent who is not in the same division and perhaps has a similar rating to Everton FC, against whom they celebrated their 4-0 victory
Of course, Tottenham and Coventry City don’t play each other all that often, with the last clash in the FA Cup almost twelve years ago. The result: a clear 3:0 against the favorites, a certain Gareth Bale was directly involved in all three goals at the time
I can’t give you any historical facts that are very meaningful. But our bookmakers don’t need them to see Spurs ahead. The odds come to an average of 1.44 to 6.50 and are quickly placed in all our sports betting apps.
For Coventry City, it would of course be something very special to knock a strong Premier League team out of the competition. For the first time since 2013, the club is now back in the 3rd round.
The first time they caught Arsenal FC and had no chance at all in the 1:6 defeat. The second division side have already competed twice in this year’s EFL Cup, so Tottenham are ahead of them in terms of cup rhythm.
Bristol City and Oxford United were on the opposite side, both times Coventry won 1-0. The decisive goals were scored in the second half, but not in the wild closing stages.
Coventry have played five rounds in the Championship so far, but their success is still limited. Or to put it in figures: one win, two draws and two defeats, plus five goals.
A 3:2 win against Oxford was a success, meaning they have beaten this club twice. In their only win, however, Coventry scrambled over the finishing line, with the decisive goal scored just before the final whistle
The Tottenham Hotspurs must already be careful not to be accused of a false start. They have only won once in the league and Everton are not really a strong opponent.
Coventry City are, of course, a second division side who are clearly inferior to the Londoners in all statistics. However, it would not be the first time that a favorite has struggled in a cup competition.
Given that Spurs’ recent performances have not been so commanding, I certainly believe that Coventry will have a small chance on Wednesday. And for that very reason, I’ve decided on the following bet:
