Just under two years after suffering cardiac arrest, former Bundesliga striker Bas Dost (36) has officially ended his career. In April of this year, he had returned to team training with NEC Nijmegen until he “received a call from the cardiologist in June. Something had been detected during training,” Dost recalled in an interview with Algemeen Dagblad. In Germany, the Dutchman won the DFB Cup with VfL Wolfsburg in 2014/15 and the Super Cup the following season.
