U21 European Championship 2025, group stage, Wednesday, 18.06.2025, 21:00
The German U21 national team has already secured its place in the quarter-finals with two wins at the start of the 2025 U21 European Championship. Can the DFB selection now also secure victory in Group B?
I will try to answer this question in my England U21 Germany U21 betting tip. However, national coach Antonio Di Salvo’s team will face the defending champions at the end of the group stage.
On the one hand, they still have a score to settle with the “Young Lions.” The British knocked Germany out of the last European Championship with a 2-0 victory in the final group match.
On the other hand, the English are a formidable opponent for the Germans and need at least one point to secure their place in the next round. I’ve finally decided on odds of 1.77 at Bet365 for the “Double Chance 1X & Over 1.5 Goals” bet.
The British are actually the defending champions at Euro 2025. However, the “Young Lions” were somewhat disappointing in their second group game against Slovenia, while Germany put in a convincing performance. As a result, the England U21 vs Germany U21 odds are now pointing to a close contest.
With odds between 2.40 and 2.70, coach Lee Carsley’s men are only slight favorites. A win for the DFB team is paying between 2.60 and 2.75 with the bookies, which include tax-free betting providers, for England U21 vs Germany U21 betting odds.
In 2023, England’s U21 team won their first European Championship title since 1984 with a 1-0 victory over Spain in the final. And the defending champions are once again ones to watch in this year’s tournament.
In the battle for a place in the finals, the “Young Lions” suffered a 2-3 defeat against Ukraine (8W, 1D), but scored 41 goals to finish with the best attack in the entire qualifying campaign.
Coach Lee Carsley, who also coached the senior national team for six games following Gareth Southgate’s resignation a year ago, can count on several experienced Premier League players.
And it was the quality of professionals such as Elliott (Liverpool), Livramento (Newcastle) and McAtee (Man City) that made the difference in the first group game, a 3-1 win over the Czech Republic.
However, in their second Group B game, the young Brits had to settle for a 0-0 draw against Slovenia. 64 percent possession and 20 shots on goal were not enough to score.
Overall, however, the “Young Lions” are unbeaten in eight games at a U21 European Championship. They have won seven of those games and kept seven clean sheets. Two years ago, the English youth team won the title with six wins from six games and a goal difference of 11-0.
For the German U21 team, this year’s European Championship was all about making amends for the last tournament. In 2023, the DFB’s young players, who were defending champions, were eliminated after the group stage with only one point and two goals.
Coach Antonio Di Salvo’s team achieved its first goal early on. In the first game of the current final round, they recorded a confident 3-0 victory over Slovenia. This was their first win at the European Championship after five games (3 draws, 2 losses).
And then Germany followed up against the Czech Republic. After just over an hour, the white and black were already leading 4-0. But then the game became exciting again thanks to a double strike from the aggressive Czechs.
In the end, however, the Germans came out on top with a 4-2 victory. The offense, led by players such as Woltemade, Tresoldi, Gruda, and Nebel, was particularly impressive, scoring a total of seven goals in two games.
In addition, the team has won two consecutive games in the group stage for the first time since 2019. The young DFB players have not only impressed with their play so far, but also with their fighting spirit.
However, coach Di Salvo’s team has not yet been able to maintain its performance consistently over 90 minutes. Germany is hoping to win its fourth title at the 2025 European Championships, following victories in 2009, 2017, and 2021.
The U21 national teams of Germany and England have faced each other 19 times. In seven test matches, the DFB selection has narrowly come out on top with four wins and three defeats.
The last friendly match between the two archrivals was played in September 2023. The “Young Lions” won 3-1 in Sheffield. Germany took the lead after 35 minutes.
However, the competitive record between the two youth teams is no longer so rosy from a German perspective. The British have lost just two of their 12 matches.
Germany won the finals against England in 1982 (3-2) and 2009 (4-0). On the other hand, there have been five draws and five defeats. The draws officially include the 2017 semi-final, when the DFB youth team prevailed on penalties.
Of course, I have more England U21 vs. Germany U21 tips for you. And here we have to keep an eye on the German offense. Nick Woltemade scored his eleventh goal in his 14th international match against the Czech Republic.
The VfB striker had previously become the seventh player in U21 European Championship history to score a hat trick (against Slovenia) and now leads the scoring charts at the European Championship with four goals.
And the striker should also be capable of scoring against England. Merkur Bets is offering great odds of 2.20 for a “Woltemade to score” bet.
Conclusion: The English coach wants to give his team a fresh boost with new players in their last group game, in which everything is still at stake for the British. Antonio Di Salvo has also announced a rotation.
However, the German coach will rest some of his regular players. When you consider that the German U21s don’t have a good record against the “Young Lions,” it’s hard to back the DFB selection.
In the second group game, a stronger opponent would probably have punished Germany’s carelessness. So I don’t think Germany will get more than one point. My England U21 vs. Germany U21 prediction is: Double chance 1X & Over 1.5 goals!
