The 2024/25 season is going according to plan for Liverpool FC so far. The Reds are in the final of the League Cup and have finished first in the league phase of the premier class.
In addition, the men of coach Arne Slot lead the Premier League with a cushion of six points over the first pursuer. The only small blemish for the Anfield Road club came at the weekend.
After a 1-0 defeat at second-division bottom Plymouth Argyle, the Reds were knocked out of the fourth round of the FA Cup. But Liverpool will have the chance to make amends as early as Wednesday.
With a win in the Merseyside derby against neighbors Everton, the Reds could extend their lead in the league to nine points. The clash between the two city rivals should have been played at the beginning of December.

Analysis: Everton vs Liverpool
Sean Dyche took over Everton FC in January 2023. In his first season, the coach saved the Toffees from relegation by one place and two points.
Last season, despite having eight points deducted, the club did slightly better, finishing 15th. But this season, the club from Liverpool was back to its old problems.
After a series of only one win in eleven games, the coach was shown the door at the beginning of January. David Moyes, an old acquaintance who had already worked as head coach at EFC from 2002 to 2013, was brought back.
And the new, old man got off to a good start. After a 0-1 home loss to Aston Villa at the start, three consecutive league wins followed. This meant that Moyes had already scored as many three-pointers since his return as his predecessor Sean Dyche had in the first 19 matches of the season.
With this series, the Toffees climbed to 16th place and now have a cushion of nine points to the first relegation place. 23 goals scored, however, are only enough for 18th place.
On the other hand, the defense is doing very well with just 28 goals conceded (4th place) in a league comparison. Nine “white vests” are only surpassed by next opponent Liverpool (10).
But just how shaky the progress under the new coach still is was shown on Saturday in the fourth round of the FA Cup. Here the Blues were eliminated 2-0 at home to Bournemouth.
Especially in the first half, the home side made too many mistakes. In addition, the squad is hopelessly understaffed in some positions. At least the debut of newcomer Carlos Alcaraz (Flamengo) gave hope.
Odds analysis

This makes LFC the only club in the top four English leagues to remain unbeaten away from home in the 2024/25 season. Their record on the road stands at nine wins, three draws and 32:12 goals.

Liverpool also led the league in terms of goals scored, with 47% of their matches ending with them in front. The Anfield outfit secured top spot in the league phase of the competition with seven wins from their first seven matches.
LFC suffer first setback under Slot
The Reds also came from behind to beat Tottenham 4-0 at home in the semi-final last week to set up a final date with the competition, after winning the first leg 1-0.
But the team, which has been so dominant so far, suffered a completely unexpected 1-0 defeat in the FA Cup against Plymouth Argyle, bottom of the second division and facing relegation.
Coach Arne Slot had put many substitute players in the starting line-up for the game and also filled many places on the substitutes’ bench with substitutes. As a result, there was ultimately not enough quality to prevent the embarrassment after all.
It was only the fourth time in the long history of the oldest cup competition in the world that a top-flight league leader had lost to the bottom-flight team.
Liverpool have recorded 99 wins against Everton in all competitions (77U, 68N). In the Premier League, the Reds have lost only two of their last 27 derbies against their neighbors (12W, 13U).
LFC conceded one of these defeats in April 2024 in the last meeting with a 0-2 defeat at Goodison Park. This ended a run of 12 away games without defeat for the Reds against the Blues (3W, 9D).
Since 1994, however, Liverpool have not lost two away games in a row at the Toffees. The new EFC coach David Moyes also does not like playing against the team from Anfield.

My tip:
Both teams want to show a reaction to the FA Cup exit. I see the league leaders as taking the lead at Anfield, even though Everton have improved significantly in recent weeks under coach Moyes.
This is, of course, due to the quality of the guests. The course of the season and the direct comparison also favor the Reds. Besides, the Toffees already had major problems with Bournemouth’s aggressive pressure.
And Arne Slot’s men will press high up the pitch and play forward again in the derby. My Everton Liverpool prediction is therefore: Liverpool to win & Under 4.5 goals!
