Cup Final Hungary, Wednesday, 14.05.2025 at 19:00
Slowly but surely, the time for cup finals is approaching – and in Hungary, only two teams remain. Ferencvaros Budapest, which has caused a stir in Europe time and again in recent years, is desperate to win the title.
But beware: exactly one year ago, they suffered a bitter defeat in the final against the club that is waiting for them again. In my Ferencvaros Paks tip, I’ll tell you why I’m betting on a lively game and therefore going for the “Both teams to score” bet!
With two days to go before the end of the season in the first division, the cup final is already upon us in Hungary – so, from the point of view of the two finalists, it would obviously help if they could just concentrate on the final.
A glance at the table reveals that this is not the case. Ferencvaros is in the lead, but only three points ahead of the second-placed team. Paksi FC, their rival, has not yet secured third place either.
In this respect, the same rules apply to both teams. Ferencvaros has naturally set itself the goal of winning the double. The cup was last won in 2022 with a clear 3-0 victory over Paks.
Last year, however, their rivals struck back, winning 2-0 after extra time. For the third time since 2022, the cup final will be between Ferencvaros and Paks.
And how could it be otherwise: the two teams met in the league just last Saturday. Ferencvaros won 3-2, scoring the decisive goal in extra time.
The Green-Whites had failed to win three times in a row, but now their losing streak has finally come to an end. What I can still see in the middle of history: 16 of the last 17 duels have always had a winner.
The only draw in this period came in last year’s cup final, which, incidentally, took place on May 15, whereas this year’s final will kick off one day earlier.
Our PayPal bookmakers’ odds favor Ferencvaros, with the odds climbing to an average of 1.60 to 4.90. Ferencvaros has played its way into this final with relative ease.
3-0 against Budafoki, 2-1 against Tiszafüred, 4-3 after extra time against ETO FC Györ, 3-1 against Üjpest and 3-1 against Mtk Budapest, with the exception of the first round, they always conceded exactly one goal.
If you want to bet that Paks will score at least once on Wednesday, you can get odds of 1.51 at VBET. Since 1991, the Budapest club has reached the final twelve times, losing only twice.
One of those defeats was against Paksi, so the second finalist has no reason to be intimidated. Their opponents, who also play in green and white, took part in the Hungarian Cup for the first time ever in 2009/10.
Last year’s triumph was the biggest success in the club’s history. For the sake of completeness, here’s a quick rundown of the opponents they knocked out of the cup this season.
3-0 against Mezöörs, 5-1 against Honved, 3-0 against Mezököveds, 1-0 against Kisvarda, and 2-1 against Zalaegerszeg, with Paks winning without extra time. How important is it for the final that only one of the last four league games has been won?
Only six away wins have been recorded. That could prove important, as the final will not be played at home. Incidentally, 17 of 31 matches, which is striking, saw exactly two goals scored.
So I’m going to stick with my bet mentioned above that Paks will score at least once in the cup final – you can risk a little more at VBET and increase your bet to “over 1.5 goals,” which brings odds of 3.40.
The 2024 final, we’re going to experience it a second time. Except that everyone who supports Ferencvaros is hoping for a different outcome, of course. They beat Paks 3-2 just a few days ago.
I’m expecting an exciting match, as the recent encounters have not been entirely to the satisfaction of the Budapest team. Accordingly, I have decided not to place a bet on the winner.
Given the 3-2 result we saw just a few days ago, I quickly decided on a bet that guarantees us an entertaining and exciting game. So my tip is:
Both teams to score!
