Frankfurt – Dortmund Tip Bundesliga, Matchday 16 on Friday, 09/01/2026 at 20:30 CET
The Bundesliga is waking up from its hibernation and returns on matchday 16 with a real floodlit firecracker. On Friday evening, Eintracht Frankfurt host Borussia Dortmund and could move to within four points of BVB with a win.
The problem: Dortmund are not beaten in passing this season. In the course of the first half of the season, the Black and Yellows have only lost to Bayern and are playing their best season in seven years with 32 points after 15 matchdays.
Since Dortmund’s winning streak is mainly due to stable defensive work (only 12 goals conceded), I am targeting the bet “Double Chance X2 & Under 3.5 Goals” at odds of around 2.00 at Bet-at-Home. For the back of your mind: In the last six BVB games, the 4-goal mark has only been broken once (2-2 against Bodö/Glimt).
In addition, there is the fact that there is a bigger question mark behind Frankfurt’s form. Has the SGE been able to fully recover over the winter break?Shortly before the turn of the year, the Hessians seemed to run out of breath. A win in the last six games is not a good prerequisite for a duel with BVB.
Frankfurt’s offensive slump has been particularly noticeable recently. In the last six games, the SGE has never scored more than a maximum of one goal. In total, they have scored four goals since the end of November.
Frankfurt – Dortmund Prediction & Betting
Dortmund are enormously strong defensively in the Bundesliga under Kovac. Frankfurt has recently suffered from loading jams. As a first tip alternative, I therefore bring “Frankfurters under 1.5 goals” into play at betting providers with PayPal. It is no coincidence that the odds only make it over the 1.50 mark with difficulty.
Since I also assume that a close duel will develop, in which both teams will try not to fall behind, the bet “draw at half-time” at odds around 2.20 comes to mind. A 0-0 at half-time wouldn’t surprise me on a cold Friday evening.
I also have a result bet up my sleeve for you. The “1:1 draw” brings it to a solid odds of about 7.30. And for the bookmakers, too, it is actually the most likely final result in the odds comparison.

Frankfurt – Dortmund: AI Tip & Odds Analysis
The Bundesliga is back – and our AI model is ready, of course. So you don’t have to do without a Frankfurt Dortmund AI prediction.
With the first tip, the digital brain actually goes for a 1×2 bet. The “draw” brings it to odds around 3.60 and is not a bad idea in view of the balanced starting position.
However, it is also true that only one of the last nine Bundesliga duels has ended in a draw.
In my view, the second selection of AI should be treated with caution. “Both teams score & over 2.5 goals” at odds of about 1.90 excludes the already mentioned 1:1.
In addition, I wouldn’t be surprised by a narrow nil win for BVB. I don’t expect a high-scoring exchange of blows in general, even if the statistics show it.
Finally, the AI brings the bet “Dortmund over 1.5 goals” into play. The odds – with the prospect of a Winamax Freebet – are around 1.85. The statistical basis: BVB have scored at least two goals in six of their last eight competitive games.
The best odds for Frankfurt vs. Dortmund
The odds for the match Eintracht Frankfurt against Borussia Dortmund tend in favor of the guests in the 1X2 market.
Dortmund’s odds imply an away win probability of around 48 percent, while Frankfurt is given a chance of victory of about 29 percent. The fact that BVB are considered slight favourites is underlined by the best start to the Bundesliga season in seven years with 32 points from 15 games.
In the Asian handicap market, Dortmund is at -0.25, Frankfurt at +0.25. For bettors on Dortmund, a win in regular time means full profit.
If the game ends in a draw, half of the stake is refunded and half is considered a loss. On the Frankfurt side, a draw at +0.25 brings at least half of a possible profit.
The Asian goal line is over/under 2.75 goals. For a full win on “Over 2.75”, at least four hits are required. With exactly three goals, half of the stake is won.
If two or fewer goals are scored, bets on “Under 2.75” win. In view of the fact that only Bayern Munich has allowed fewer shots on goal per game this season than Dortmund (11.0) and Frankfurt (11.3), the market is correspondingly cautious when it comes to goal expectations.
In the all-time goalscorer market, Serhou Guirassy leads the odds for Dortmund – despite the fact that he has gone six games without a goal since his winner against Augsburg in October.
Frankfurt vs Dortmund Match Analysis:
For Borussia Dortmund, this is an excellent opportunity to send a clear signal against a direct competitor in the race for the Champions League places.
BVB go into this game with a seven-point lead over Eintracht Frankfurt. An away win would give Niko Kovac’s team a comfortable lead in the fight for the top four.
As Dortmund head coach, Kovac has clearly focused on defensive stability. With the second-best defence in the Bundesliga, BVB has one of the strongest defensive teams this season.
Nevertheless, the duel with Frankfurt promises entertainment. In the DFB Cup clash in October, both teams had a combined 29 shots on goal, and the goalkeepers are likely to be challenged this time as well.
Despite the stable basic order, Dortmund consistently looks for a way forward with the ball. This is reflected in the so-called field tilt, in which BVB has the third-highest value in the league.
Accordingly, it is to be expected that Kovac’s team will choose an active, dominant approach and will have a lot of possession in the opponent’s half.
Frankfurt, on the other hand, is ready to press high. Eintracht allow the fifth fewest passes per defensive action in the Bundesliga, which is why an intense battle for possession is to be expected.
However, this style of play is accompanied by a high defensive line that is susceptible to counterattacks. As a result, Frankfurt have conceded the second most goals in the league – a weak point that Dortmund will try to exploit in a targeted manner.
Frankfurt Form Check
Eintracht Frankfurt experienced a difficult end to 2025 and only managed one win, two draws and one defeat in the last four December games, including a 1-1 away draw at HSV.
Eintracht are seven points behind second-placed BVB in the table and have won just one of their last six games in all competitions.
In response to this lack of form, Frankfurt was active in the transfer market and signed several players. The focus is on striker Younes Ebnoutalib from SV Elversberg, who is the current top scorer in the 2nd Bundesliga with twelve goals in 17 games.
The 22-year-old Frankfurt native is about to make his Bundesliga debut and is expected to strengthen the attack.
Eintracht also secured the services of midfielder Love Arrhov (Brommapojkarna) and Japanese defender Keita Kosugi from Djurgardens IF. With these new signings, the club wants to broaden the squad both for the Bundesliga and for the remaining two games in the league phase of the Champions League.
Frankfurt’s games in the first half of the season were marked by many goals: A total of 60 goals were scored in 15 games, an average of four per match. At the same time, the team made eight individual mistakes that led to goals conceded – only surpassed by SC Freiburg (nine) in the league.
At the end of the year, Frankfurt remained unbeaten in four games in their own stadium and won three of them.
Dortmund Form Check
Borussia Dortmund go into 2026 as second in the Bundesliga table. At the end of 2025, BVB celebrated a 2-0 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach. Dortmund are unbeaten in eight Bundesliga games, their only defeat of the season being a 2-1 defeat against leaders Bayern Munich.
Bayern is currently the only team in the five major European leagues to have a longer unbeaten streak and fewer defeats (none) than Dortmund in this period.
With 32 points, BVB have recorded their best haul in seven years at this point in the season. In the Bundesliga, Dortmund were only 91 minutes behind – a figure that is only beaten by Atletico Madrid (70 minutes) in the top 5 leagues in Europe.
Also remarkable: Dortmund is the only team in Europe’s top five divisions to have conceded only two goals in the first half this season.
Eight clean sheets from the first 15 Bundesliga games mean a new club record. Previously, this feat had only been achieved in the 1994/95 and 2001/02 championship seasons.
Despite their defensive stability, Dortmund only have an average of 11.9 shots on goal per Bundesliga game – the lowest figure of all teams.
The team used the winter break for a training camp in sunny Marbella. The club has remained quiet on the transfer market so far: Pascal Groß returned to Brighton & Hove Albion, Cole Campbell was loaned to TSG Hoffenheim.
