Freiburg – Union Berlin Tip Bundesliga, Matchday 26 on Sunday, 14.03.2026 at 17:30 CET
With the 1-0 defeat in Genk on Thursday, SC Freiburg did not surprisingly miss the hoped-for good starting position for the second leg of the Europa League round of 16 in a few days.
If the Breisgau team has had problems away from home for some time, they will now be caught on their strong foot again in the Bundesliga – after all, the sports club has not completely lost any of its last 17 home games.
Against Union Berlin, who simply can’t get back on their feet in the second half of the season, a walk in the park could therefore develop – if the capital club of all clubs were not to be counted among the big opponents of the southern Germans.
Since three of the last five direct duels ended completely goalless, shooting festivals have not been booming in this comparison recently.
But you don’t necessarily need a shooting festival to meet my expectation of (at least) one goal each. And for the BTS, the conditions seem to be quite excellent.
While the Berlin defence recently lived up to a pile of chickens against Bremen, the attacking department, which was also only very convincing in doses, was always good for a goal, at least away from home.
In combination with the often airy defensive behaviour of Freiburg, I have chosen a very reliable bet here according to my taste!
Freiburg – Union Berlin Prediction & Betting
If you are looking for an alternative to my main tip, I have two more interesting options for your Freiburg Union Berlin bets. A home win for the Breisgau team is definitely worth considering, the odds for this are around 2.10.
Freiburg have only lost one home game in the Bundesliga this season and are unbeaten in eleven games in front of their own fans. During this time, they averaged a strong 2.09 goals per game and won seven.
Another exciting bet is the Asian Over 2.0 goals at odds of 1.60. In nine of Freiburg’s twelve home games, a bet on over 2.5 goals would have been successful. With exactly two goals, you get your stake back here.
What you need to know about Freiburg vs. Union Berlin betting
- Freiburg are unbeaten in 17 home games across all competitions. Only four teams have picked up more home points in the Bundesliga.
- Union Berlin have failed to score in four of their twelve away games, but have scored in four of their last five away games.
- The Freiburg defense is vulnerable. In twelve Bundesliga home games, there were only two clean sheets for Julian Schuster’s team.
- Union keeper Frederik Rønnow has one of the weakest saves in the league. Only three goalkeepers save fewer balls in percentage terms (61%).
Freiburg – Union Berlin: AI Tip & Odds Analysis
Our internal analysis tool takes an exciting look at the game and supports my Freiburg Union Berlin prediction. The probability of Freiburg winning at home is 44.1 percent, which makes them the clear favorites.
The AI forecast gives a probability of 27.1 percent for a draw, while an away win for the Berliners is rated at 28.8 percent. The figures therefore largely coincide with the assessment of the betting providers.
Based on these probabilities, our artificial intelligence considers the Double Chance X2 to be legitimate, which, however, seems to me to be a bit too meagre with a tight 1.70.
With the expected number of goals, the tool predicts a value of 2.3 goals for the entire game. Freiburg is estimated with 1.3 goals, while the Unioners have 1.01 goals. That also speaks for my bet on goals on both sides.
The Asian Handicap Line is set at -0.25 for Freiburg. This means that you win your bet if Freiburg wins by at least one goal. In the event of a tie, you would lose half of your bet.
The Asian Handicap Line for over-goals is 2.25. Here you need at least three goals in the game for the full win. If exactly two hits are scored, half of the bet is returned. That’s an interesting hedge.
The classic Over 2.5 goals are quoted at about 2.10 at the best bookmakers. Not a bad offer, although I would be surprised if too much happens in Breisgau after an assumed second goal …
The best odds for Freiburg vs Union Berlin
Freiburg Union win odds of 2.20 finally show the home side as the clear favourites. The rate would probably have been much lower if the hosts had made even a slightly better cut in the last direct duels.
Thus, one can assume that the offers for “Tip 1” have a lot of value. In any case, it wouldn’t have let me lose faith if I had only found a “1” in front of the decimal point in Freiburg’s home win.
The attractiveness of Freiburg’s home quota has the logical trap that the underdog ratings are not exactly going through the roof.
For both a draw and an away win, I would undoubtedly have wished for a little more than just a 3.30 or 3.50 here.
But maybe it actually makes sense to trust the Berliners to pull off another surprise here, which you can almost rely on, especially in supposedly hopeless starting positions.
For example, even before the victories against Stuttgart, Leverkusen and in Frankfurt or the points against Bayern and in the MHP Arena, I would hardly have bet a penny on the Köpenickers.
Freiburg vs Union Berlin Match Analysis:
The starting position could hardly be more different. Freiburg is ten points ahead of the relegation zone and can play relatively relaxed. At Union, the world looks different: Only four points separate the Iron from the relegation place.
For Julian Schuster’s team, the Europa League is also in focus, so a win in the league is not essential for survival. It’s completely different at Union, who urgently need a sense of achievement after the recent defeats against Gladbach and Bremen.
A look at the statistics shows that Freiburg’s defence has never kept a clean sheet in the last five Bundesliga games. The home side have conceded 42 goals, although the value of expected goals conceded (xGA) is only 34.
Union Berlin, on the other hand, falls short of expectations offensively. The xG value (expected goals) is undercut by 5.4 points. In the last ten away games, the Iron have only scored more than one goal.
Despite Freiburg’s impressive home record (seven wins, one defeat), the direct comparison speaks for the guests. Union are unbeaten in six duels, with three wins and three draws against Sport-Club.
This historic result makes the game particularly tricky. While the current form clearly speaks for Freiburg, Union has proven in the past that it knows how to make life difficult for the Breisgau team.
Freiburg Form Check
Freiburg started the season with the clear goal of qualifying for Europe again. However, their weak away form has made this a real feat of strength, which will only be decided in the last months of the season.
At home in the Europa-Park Stadium, however, the sports club is a power. Only four teams in the entire Bundesliga have collected more points in front of their own fans this season than Freiburg. That is an impressive record.
The last home game ended with a spectacular 3-3 draw against Leverkusen. It was an open exchange of blows with a total of 38 shots on goal, in which Freiburg even had a slightly higher xG value than the opponent in the end.
The difference between home and away games at Freiburg is extreme. They scored a whole 16 points less away from home. In order to achieve the goal of “Europe”, this must change urgently, while the home fortress must continue to exist.
Schuster’s team has proven that it is almost unstoppable, especially offensively at home. This penetrating power in attack is the key to success even against deep-lying opponents like Union Berlin.
However, the double burden of the Europa League could be a factor. It remains to be seen whether the team has the necessary freshness to push itself to the limit in the league and get the important home win.
Union Form Check
Union Berlin is still in the solid midfield of the table, which is in line with expectations before the season. But the table is so tight in this area that the Irons must continue to collect points to avoid slipping.
However, self-confidence is at its lowest point after the recent 4-1 defeat at home to relegation candidates Bremen. This result was a bitter damper for the team and has further exacerbated the tense situation.
This season, Steffen Baumgart’s team lacks creative moments in the game going forward. With an xG value of 32.64, they have the fifth lowest value in the league and have even undercut it with the actual goals (30 goals).
Away from home, the lack of goals is particularly striking. Only three teams score fewer goals per away game on average than Union, two of which are currently in a direct relegation place. This is an alarming statistic.
Although the current position in the table still seems comparatively comfortable, the performances must improve significantly in the coming weeks. The goal is to secure relegation as early as possible and to end the season quietly.
Against Freiburg, who are strong at home, this will require an enormous increase in performance. Above all, the defence must find stability again after the four goals conceded against Bremen in order to have a chance of picking up points in Breisgau.
