French Open today – Matches from 28.05.
It could have been Rafael Nadal’s last appearance at the French Open. The Spaniard lost to Alexander Zverev in the first round on Court Philipp-Chatrier. He is not 100 percent sure whether he will return.
However, he will definitely play again in Paris if he stays fit. After all, the Olympic Games are coming up in the French capital in August. Nadal’s conqueror Zverev is certain that the 22-time Grand Slam winner will continue, given the leaps in performance after the injury. Nadal actually played a better match than in Madrid and Rome
So why end his career when he can return to strong form given more time? This is precisely why the clay court icon is likely to leave the door ajar. So much for Monday’s top match, which was also watched by the men’s and women’s world number ones, Iga Swiatek and Novak Djokovic.
The Serb is on court today in the night session against a wild card. The tournament also starts today for Angelique Kerber. For the German men, the focus is on Jan-Lennard Struff. I’m also taking a look at the Scandinavian players in today’s French Open tips.
The showdown between players from completely different nations will also soon take place at the European Football Championship, so check out the best betting providers, bonus offers and, above all, free bets now, for which you don’t even have to deposit money to bet on the European Championship matches
French Open today – 28.05.2024
Djokovic is aiming for his 25th major title in 2024. But his form doesn’t seem to be perfect. The Serbian is still without a title this calendar year. He recently failed to reach the semi-finals in Geneva for the third time this year, as he did in Melbourne and Monte Carlo.
Things went worse in Indian Wells and Rome, when he had to return home after the third round. Unlike Nadal, he has the opportunity to start the tournament against an easier opponent, Pierre-Hugues Herbert. The fact that a Nadal could meet a Zverev in round one was due to the fact that the Spaniard was not seeded.
Should there be a new lottery system in which particularly successful players from the past are given a place in the seeding list? With yesterday’s performance, Nadal would definitely have won against many players. Dominic Thiem would also have been part of this idea.
All in all, it’s been a successful first round for Germany so far, with Daniel Altmaier, Maximilian Marterer and surprise player Henri Squire all making it through to the second round alongside Zverev. Struff wants to do the same today and is the clear favorite against Argentinian Roman Andres Burruchaga. Kerber also has a good chance in the women’s draw

French Open today 28.05.: Rus – Kerber (13:00)
In our French Open betting today, it’s ladies first on Tuesday! Kerber makes the start in our overview. The Bremen-born player will face Arantxa Rus, who is currently ranked 50th, for the first time in her career. Kerber has made the better impression in her preparations.
She was particularly encouraged by reaching the fourth round, where she presented a strong first set against the high-flyer Iga Swiatek and was also one break ahead in the second round. Prior to that, she had not dropped a set in the eternal city. Rus, on the other hand, can look back on three defeats in a row. My colleague Isabella Strehmann quite rightly opted for the Kerber win in her analysis of the match.
Our expert tip: Victory Kerber
French Open betting today 28.05.: Meligeni Alves – Ruud (13:30)
Ruud was in the final of the French Open the last two years. He lost to Nadal in 2022 and Djokovic in 2023. In any case, he is probably THE unluckiest player on the tour when it comes to finals. He at least bagged his first 500 title in Barcelona a few weeks ago. With the strong competition, he is only an extended favorite with the betting providers. According to the odds, he is clearly ahead against Meligeni Alves.
At Winamax I have spotted a strong 1.52 for the outright win. Meligeni Alves has a strong record with 18 wins from 25 clay court matches, but there have hardly been any big names in the smaller tournaments he has played. Only Lorenzo Musetti, who swept him off the court, is worth mentioning. He came through the qualifiers flawlessly, but I don’t see any chances against the freshly crowned Geneva winner.
Our expert tip: 3:0 Ruud
Tennis betting today 28.05.: Burruchaga vs. Struff (14:30)
Struff is playing a strong clay court season in 2024. He finally won his long-awaited first title in Munich and has also impressed at other tournaments, including reaching the last 16 at the same venue after reaching the final in Madrid 2023. He was only beaten in the 1,000s by the world’s tennis elite.
Jannik Sinner defeated him in Monaco, Carlos Alcaraz in Madrid and Stefanos Tsitispas in Rome. He has won his other nine matches, eight of them outright. He is extremely consistent and should have no problems against Burruchaga, who had a good qualifying campaign but otherwise played an unremarkable year.
Our expert tip: 3:0 Struff
Tennis betting today 28.05.: Evans – Rune (16:00)
Holger Rune has the goal of becoming world number one. However, things are currently going in the wrong direction for the world number four, who ended his collaboration with Boris Becker after a short time. His recent poor results have seen him drop out of the top 10. In Rome and Madrid, he only made it as far as round three. He reached the quarter-finals in Monaco and missed out on his third title in Munich after losing to Struff.
However, it is very likely that he will make it past the first round in Monaco. Daniel Evans was only able to win two clay court matches in Bordeaux, but still has a poor win rate of 49 percent overall. In any case, it has been a horror year for the 34-year-old, who has lost 13 of his 18 matches.
Our expert tip: 3:0 Rune
French Open today 28.05.: Djokovic – Herbert (20:15)
On Court Philipp-Chatrier, Novak Djokovic is the last player to play today, Tuesday. In the night session, he is the heavy favorite against Herbert, who received a wild card, which was sorely needed for the former 36th player in the world. After all, Herbert has lost seven of his last eight matches.
On this form, he would have had a tough time in qualifying. On clay, he was only convincing when he reached the final in Naples, a Challenger tournament that didn’t have a very strong field. He will find it very difficult to get through his service games against the most confident return player. Even if Djokovic is not in absolute top form, it should be a quick 3:0 win.
Our expert tip: 3:0 Djokovic & no tiebreak
