The almost unbeatable champions, the team that had an absolutely fabulous season in 2023/24, are back in the hunt! Before the Süper Lig kicks off its new season, the national Super Cup will be played on Saturday.
Gala, the outstanding champions, will face the cup winners, which was Besiktas a few months ago. So a derby, something that is not at all uncommon in this competition, will once again divide Turkey into two halves.
How will the match be assessed in the run-up? Based purely on the impressions of the previous season, there can of course only be one winner, but as it’s been several weeks since the break, that won’t be enough to make a well-founded assessment

Analysis: Galatasaray vs Besiktas
33 wins in 38 rounds, 92 goals scored and 26 conceded – it still reads incredible! Galatasaray’s season will have a special place in the history books.
It’s hard to believe that, with 102 points, they actually had to wait until the final matchday before finally clinching the title, as arch-rivals Fenerbahce were on a similarly strong run.
Now the Lions want to make the almost impossible possible and go one better. Although… The club would probably sign for 80 points if they won the title again.

Quota analysis
If I had to decide on the 1×2 bets, my priority would clearly be a Galatasaray win. Of course, also because they have won four of the last five derbies.
At the same time, however, I think Besiktas are strong enough to keep up well. As the Black Eagles have scored in seven of their last eight matches, I would bet on a total of over 2.5 goals, which creates odds of 1.71 at Bwin.
The risk of a result bet could also be worthwhile. I see Galatasaray ahead, but I wouldn’t expect the game to be too clear-cut. Therefore, I have a 2:1 in mind, which would result in odds of 8.00.
Gala fickle in test matches
Tete has left the team, a good seven million euros were due for him. This was directly reinvested in Elias Jelert, who, at nine million euros, was brought in from Copenhagen and is the transfer king.
Hakim Ziyech has now been signed permanently, while Michy Batsuhayi came from rivals Fenerbahce. Of course, the most important news is that goalscorer Mauro Icardi will remain loyal to the Lions.

How strong is Besiktas 2024/25?
The victories against Lecce (2:1) and Trencin (4:1) don’t carry quite as much weight as the numerous goals conceded. Of course, a look at the history is also interesting.
First, let’s take a look at whether the Supercup is a popular or rather unpopular competition for the Lions. Seven of the last nine participations ended successfully, which is a real record.
Last season, both matches against Besiktas were won, with the Turkish record champions taking the results 1-0 and 2-1. Four of the last five have been won, so that could be another advantage
Besiktas of course know full well that they have rarely looked good in the derby in recent years. The 2023/24 season was a rather disappointing one, finishing sixth in the league with 16 wins.
At least they somehow managed to cheat their way through in the Türkiye Kupasi, and winning the title here halfway reconciled the fans to what they had seen. Trabzonspor were defeated 3:2 in the final, with the all-important goal coming in injury time
As cup winners, they now qualify for the Super Cup. Champions once in the last four appearances, and that only after a penalty shoot-out? So this point already seems to go to Galatasaray.
Besiktas have a new coach in Giovanni van Bronckhorst, but who will the former Netherlands top player be working with? Two key players, Valentin Rosier and Cenk Tosun, are now working elsewhere.
Besiktas signed Moatasem Al-Musrati from Braga for eleven million euros, while Ciro Immobile, a really big name, also came to the Bosphorus. The Eagles have spent almost 17 million in total, so it’s clear that the fans want to see something now
My tip:
Galatasaray or Besiktas, once again we get to ask ourselves this question! In my opinion, the Lions have the better chances in the Super Cup, although not all impressions from the test matches have been so wonderful.
Defensively, there were a few gaps and Besiktas have strengthened their squad with Ciro Immobile. Nevertheless, I think the reigning Turkish champions have the better individual quality.
All in all, however, I’m not taking the risk of betting on a win, as the derbies in recent years have been too close for that. For this reason, I have ultimately opted for the following combination bet:
