Ice Hockey World Championship group stage, Saturday, 10.05.2025 at 16:20
When it slowly gets warmer outside and the NHL enters its hot phase, then it is also time for national teams and also for interesting ice hockey bets for the starting Men’s World Championship 2025.
According to my Germany Hungary betting tip, the DEB selection will celebrate an opening victory. Because even without JJ Peterka, the Eagles bring too much speed to the ice to be caught cold by the promoted team.
The German national ice hockey team will have a much more pleasant start to the World Championship this year.
While they only managed one win last year after three intense games against absolute top teams, the schedule is much more pleasant this time around.
The opening game is against Hungary, an opponent who last took part in an A World Championship two years ago and is now back after a brief spell in the “2nd division”. The DEB team will therefore have a doable task
The last time they met in Finland, Germany clearly defeated Hungary 7:2. A similarly clear success seems realistic this time too – even if the squad is weakened by a number of absences.
Firstly, the DEB team will have to do without captain Moritz Müller – the second loss in the defense, which further weakens the defense. Even more serious, however, is the loss of JJ Peterka.
The offensive artist, who I like to call the “Jamal Musiala of German ice hockey”, is missing for exactly the same reasons that prevented Moritz Seider from playing in last year’s World Championship.
His contract with the Buffalo Sabres has expired, and without a new agreement a World Championship appearance would be too risky from an insurance point of view.
A bitter setback for the DEB selection, no question – because Peterka was one of the most important driving forces in the German attacking game.
Despite some painful losses, however, the German team can also build on real NHL quality: With Philipp Grubauer in goal and the aforementioned Moritz Seider, they have first-class players in key positions.
US international Maksymilian Szuber is also in the line-up, and with a bit of luck Tim Stützle will even join the team – a potential reinforcement that would give the German attack additional punch.
Hungary, on the other hand, can only dream of players of this caliber. Although the team will put a lot of effort into their performance, they are unlikely to be able to do much against the individual class of the German selection.
In Hungary’s immediate preparations for this A World Cup, the focus was more on gaining self-confidence than on real endurance tests against strong opponents.
So don’t be fooled by their spring test match record of five wins and two defeats.
During this period, the team played exclusively against teams that are themselves fighting against relegation – including two defeats that make you sit up and take notice: a clear 2:6 against Denmark and a 2:4 against newly promoted Slovenia. That doesn’t bode well.
Germany, on the other hand, have faced much greater challenges in their preparations – including two intense encounters with Slovakia. The DEB team even won the first of these two duels by the narrow margin of 3:2.
The later dress rehearsal against the USA was lost 2:5, but the defeat is no cause for concern. The North Americans are among the top title favorites and bring much more speed and quality than their opening opponents at this World Cup.
As far as a sensible Germany Hungary betting tip is concerned, I recommend you go to the Betano app, for example – there you will regularly find strong odds and a clear offer.
A win for Germany with a handicap of -2.5 at odds of 1.60 is absolutely possible. If you believe that the DEB team can do even better, you can also bet on Germany winning with a handicap of -3.5 at a much more attractive 2.35.
Especially in view of the clear individual advantages and the weak Hungarian test match opponents, a clear success seems very likely and the odds are correspondingly attractive.
Conclusion: This is an absolutely solvable task for the DEB selection. Anything other than a clear victory would not only be disappointing, but would even be tantamount to a minor sensation.
Hungary could surprise with an early goal – that can’t be completely ruled out. But over the full 60 minutes, the German team will show their individual class and dominate the game.
In the end, there should be a two to three goal difference on the scoreboard – in favor of a clearly superior German selection.
My tip: Victory Germany & over 4.5 goals
