Bundesliga matchday 23, Saturday, 22.02.2025 at 15:30
The Foals are flying higher and higher in the table – but how far can they go? Will it really be enough for a return to the international stage at the end of the season?
Augsburg, on the other hand, are increasingly becoming the Bundesliga’s draw king, but are keeping their distance from the relegation zone. Excitement is therefore guaranteed when the two teams meet on the 23rd Bundesliga matchday. Who will come out on top?
Beating Augsburg will certainly not be easy for Mönchengladbach. Although they are not a classic opponent to fear, the Fuggerstädter are definitely not exactly welcome at Borussia-Park.
FCA have won five of their last eight Bundesliga duels against Gladbach (1 draw, 2 defeats), including the last two.
Should Augsburg now triumph over the Foals once again, it would even be the second league double victory over the Rhinelanders – after 2014/15.
At the end of my Gladbach Augsburg prediction, however, I do not assume that the fans of the “Foals” will have to make long faces after the final whistle.
The betting providers’ forecast?
The Foals will start as favorites against Augsburg, which is reflected in the odds of 1.85.
FCA, on the other hand, have a hard time scoring with the bookmakers with average odds of 4.10 to win, while a draw at 3.75 also seems unlikely.
The bookmakers therefore seem to be taking a clear stance in their Gladbach Augsburg odds. However, I’m not 100% convinced that the home side will actually be victorious in the end.
AI prediction Gladbach vs Augsburg: This is what ChatGPT
The Gladbach-Augsburg AI prediction from ChatGPT offers some interesting betting options that we should take a closer look at – even if not all that glitters is gold!
For the high risk, “1st goal Augsburg and Gladbach win” is suggested. A popular special bet that definitely has its raison d’être. Since I believe Gladbach can win, it could also be from a deficit. Why not!
At medium risk, ChatGPT suggests the option “1st goal: Augsburg”. An acceptable suggestion that builds on the previous one. Especially since FCA already scored the 1:0 in the first round duel.
Finally, the risk-averse sports betting fans among you are suggested “Both teams score”. Very likely in my eyes, as this condition has already been met in each of the last three joint encounters.
Analysis: Gladbach vs Augsburg
Borussia Mönchengladbach have improved impressively after narrowly avoiding relegation last season and, with 34 points at half-time, are in a better position than they have been since the 2019/20 season.
After a run of three defeats at the start of the year, the team has achieved an unbeaten record of three wins and one draw in its last four Bundesliga games.
The 2:1 win against Union Berlin last time out was a successful, but unfortunately also very painful victory, as regular keeper Moritz Nicolas suffered a serious injury.
The team faces a difficult task against Augsburg, a team against whom Gladbach have only won one of their last five meetings.
Furthermore, FCA have not lost since matchday 16 and have kept a clean sheet four times (3 wins, 3 draws).
However, Augsburg have not scored a single goal in their last 12 away games at Borussia-Park.
Nevertheless, the strong defense of the Fuggerstädter should not allow more than a maximum of two goals conceded on Saturday, even in the worst case scenario.
Odds Analysis
“Kleindienst scores” at odds of around 2.18 sounds exciting! The Gladbach striker has been building up his confidence of late and could score a crucial goal for his new club in what looks set to be a tight encounter.
“Under 2.5 goals for Gladbach at 1.30” is a rather safe, if not necessarily profitable, betting choice due to Augsburg’s solid defense. In any case, I have a lot of respect for the FCA back line!
Gladbach vs. Augsburg: The iron defense of FCA!
Yes, that’s really impressive! Augsburg’s defense has improved massively since the winter break. With just three goals conceded in seven Bundesliga games in 2025, no team in Europe’s top five leagues has conceded fewer.
They have already conceded four times, only one more and they would have more clean sheets than in the entire 2024 calendar year (5). That shows how solid the Fuggerstädter’s defense is now!
Gladbach: Kleindienst is currently scoring from all angles!
Tim Kleindienst has developed into a real goalscorer at Gladbach.
With five goals in five consecutive Bundesliga games and a total of 14 goals this season, he has set a record for a Borussia player that was last achieved by Lars Stindl in the 2020/21 season (also 14 goals).
Next Saturday, Kleindienst could even become the first Gladbach player since Oliver Neuville (2004/05) to score in six Bundesliga games in a row! The international is possibly in the form of his life at the moment!
Augsburg have really improved a lot in the second half of the season. The current run of six unbeaten games in the Bundesliga shows how stable the team has become – something they last achieved under Jess Thorup at the start of his tenure.
That definitely suggests that they could also pick up a point against Gladbach. If BMG come out on top in the end, it will probably only be with a one-goal difference, I’m sticking to that prediction.
By the way: As already discussed, Gladbach can find their way back into the game even after falling behind in the meantime. But does the same apply in reverse?
Gladbach have proven to be very strong this season when they have scored the first goal of the game themselves.
Watch out: A record of 9 wins and only 1 draw after an initial 1-0 shows how well they control the game once they take the lead themselves.
My Gladbach Augsburg betting tip:
Gladbach go into the game as favorites, but the advantage is rather narrow. Augsburg will have a strong defense and will not give in easily.
A draw (1:1) is certainly possible, but a 2:1 for Gladbach could also be in the cards – although a lot depends on how the reserve keeper performs after the loss of Moritz Nicolas.
My Gladbach Augsburg tip: Double chance 1X & Both teams to score
