Premiership Scotland Matchday 21, Thursday, 02.01.2025 at 16:00
It’s the duel of duels in Scotland, the big Glasgow derby, the game that has often decided who will be champions in the end! When Rangers host Celtic on Wednesday, there’s only one to root for.
With the visitors arriving with a lead of miles, there is little pressure on them. And yet, a home win, I can’t see that happening. Accordingly, in my Glasgow Rangers Celtic betting tip, I’ll tell you why I’m going for the “double chance X2” with a maximum of four goals.
The two best clubs in the league have only played 18 times, the others have already played 19 or 20 rounds. The Scottish Premiership has 33 matchdays and yet it seems as if it has already been decided who will end up on top.
Celtic Glasgow and Rangers have already fought one or two heated duels for the title, but in 2024/25 it looks like that will not happen. The reason: Celtic are simply far too strong for their opponents
16 wins and two draws, no defeats – who can keep up with that! The Bhoys aren’t doing too badly in the Champions League either – apart from the 1:7 against Dortmund.
Draws against Atalanta, Bruges and Dinamo Zagreb, plus wins against RB Leipzig and Slovan Bratislava, the results surprise and impress me in equal measure.
Dundee and Aberdeen have managed to snatch a point from the presumed 2025 champions in the Premiership. It will probably come as no surprise to you when I say that I have found no grounds for criticism either offensively or defensively.
52 goals were scored, resulting in an average of 2.9 per game. Goals conceded? A measly FOUR! 15 white vests are unique, only in the 2:2 draw against Aberdeen did they concede two goals once
These were absolutely unnecessary, as the Green-Whites squandered a 2:0 lead. This team doesn’t really care whether they are playing away or at home, as the statistics show.
They scored twice away from home, once on a counter-attack and the other time from a penalty. In this respect, I have to look at the bet “Rangers don’t score”, because a goal to nil is standard at Celtic.
At Interwetten, the bet “Away win to nil” has odds of 4.10 – that reads very profitable. Incidentally, you shouldn’t miss out on the exclusive betting bonus at Interwetten.
At this point, it is also interesting to see what the history says about this derby. Celtic have only lost one of the last 17 duels, which of course speaks against a defeat on Thursday.
3:3, 1:0, 0:3? The last three games at the Ibrox Stadium have been so hard to classify! It is therefore only logical for our PayPal betting providers to set the odds relatively cautiously.
On average, 2.20 meets 3.15 from the visitors’ point of view, so Rangers also have a realistic chance of winning. They go into the match 14 points behind, so they know that the title doesn’t really seem realistic.
The hosts have had a much more mixed round with eleven wins, three draws and four defeats. 1:2 against St. Mirren and 2:2 against Motherwell, after Christmas they failed to win twice in a row.
It was the first time ever this season that they had failed to win twice in a row. Quick to explain, because: Both duels were played away from home. The choice of venue is very important for the Rangers:
8-1-0? It works much better at home! With 22:3 goals, everything is going well here too, especially defensively. Finally a score that can keep up with the city rivals!
Three times 1:0, twice 2:1, of course I also have to mention that five of the eight home victories have been very close, as Celtic unfortunately have a lot more in the tank in attack.
The supremacy in Scotland is clearly settled, much to the chagrin of Rangers. There is no way around Celtic in 2024/25, the statistics are dizzyingly good. No defeats, four goals conceded, who can stop this team!
I can’t fault the Green-Whites away from home either. However, as Rangers also perform really well in their stadium and hardly concede any goals, I’m refraining from a win bet.
I therefore prefer the “Double chance X2” for the time being, because I simply can’t imagine Celtic going down. Since I have praised the defensive work on both sides, my final bet is:
Celtic to score under 4.5 goals!
