Bundesliga Matchday 28, Saturday, 05.04.2025 at 15:30
It was one of those games that you can say about retrospectively: It ruined our entire season in the end. Bayer Leverkusen were knocked out of the DFB Cup with a bang, but don’t have much time before the Bundesliga comes calling again – in this case in the form of our Heidenheim Leverkusen tip.
You might think: the reigning champions are traveling to a relegation candidate, so what could possibly go wrong? However, it is well known that the Swabians have really turned up the heat recently and have finally managed to escape the major crisis.
In addition, Leverkusen lost in Bielefeld, and deservedly so – anyone who gets knocked out by a third division team could also have problems in Heidenheim. I’m even holding back on a betting recommendation, leaving it at the classic “Both teams score. ”
FCH’s upswing is making a lot of friends in the Bundesliga, after all, nobody wishes Frank Schmidt any harm. A win against Leverkusen would still be surprising, of course, but Heidenheim haven’t looked bad in either of their previous home games against the Werkself.
It could therefore be more than just a game between David and Goliath. After all, if the Goliath arrives on the pitch in a battered state, the David could spring a big surprise. Even if it’s not Bielefeld!
The prediction of the bookmakers?
The last two games have been very successful for Heidenheim. Nevertheless, it is of course not surprising that our PayPal bookmakers are still cautious. This is reflected in average win odds of 6.90.
On the other hand, Leverkusen only have one more chance of winning the Bundesliga title, so they absolutely have to win. The bookies are completely on the side of the Werkself, who don’t even have odds of 1.50 on them.
A draw would of course help the home side considerably more. Since the previous two home games against Leverkusen (1:2 and 2:1) were very close, you should at least consider the draw bet at odds of 4.65.
AI prediction Heidenheim vs Leverkusen: ChatGPT
Is ChatGPT ready to take the latest news from the DFB Cup? I’m not so sure, because somehow I can’t really get to grips with the AI’s betting suggestions.
The tip, which carries a high risk, foresees an away win including -2HC. Leverkusen win by at least three goals? I don’t see that happening! After the cup defeat, it’s time to lick wounds, and this HC would only have been correct twice this season for Bayer away from home.
Tip 2 after the first 45 minutes is also suggested to me. Most recently, Leverkusen failed to do exactly that three times in a row. Since Heidenheim twice went into the break with a lead, I would also be skeptical about this bet.
What about the classic “Over 2.5 goals”? Admittedly, Heidenheim are not among the defensive specialists, but they have improved considerably in this area. Added to this is Leverkusen’s fatigue from the cup. So I can well imagine that NOT many goals will be scored here…
Analysis: Heidenheim vs Leverkusen
What a relief! Heidenheim believe in themselves again, that they can stay in the league and that everything can change for the better. After 24 rounds, the Swabians had suffered 17 defeats and their relegation seemed sealed.
The 1:1 against Hoffenheim was already a very quiet “we’re not out of here yet”, but the subsequent victories against Kiel (3:1) and Wolfsburg (1:0) caused boundless jubilation. Unbeaten three times in a row – something that has never happened before this season!
The Heidenheim side have now moved back up the table into the relegation places. They are three points off the relegation zone, but Bochum are only two points behind them.
In this respect, everything is still wide open and more wins are definitely needed. Leverkusen, Frankfurt, Bayern and Stuttgart – the next four games will be incredibly difficult for FCH. No wonder all four of these games were lost in the first half of the season
Odds Analysis
They’re finally smiling again in Heidenheim! After the recent results, there is a mood of optimism, while nobody in Leverkusen would have expected the cup exit. That’s why I can imagine the double chance 1X bet, which has odds of 2.75 in the Bet365 app.
If you don’t want to take quite so much risk, you can also minimize it. Namely, if you say: Leverkusen are not yet ahead at half-time. Now we would only be at 1.77.
If I had to decide on a result bet and let Bayer win, I would clearly be at 2:1. However, I don’t think a 1:1 is out of the question either. The odds for these two tips: An 8.75 for the away win and a 9.25 for the draw.
Heidenheim vs. Leverkusen: Can Heidenheim stay in it now?
In three of the last five games, Heidenheim went into half-time with a lead, also collecting five points at the end. Despite the win against Kiel, Frank Schmidt’s team are still bottom of the home table.
Having only drawn once, there have been a whopping nine defeats. Seven of these defeats were by at least two goals. But if you’re in a never-ending crisis, you know that everything simply goes wrong in such phases.
Heidenheim know that you can quickly go off the rails against Leverkusen. They took a sensational 2-0 lead in the first half of the season, but ultimately had to travel home with a 5-2 defeat. In 2023/24, they had lost 4-1 at the BayArena.
But things went much better twice at home. FCH won 2:1 in the round of 16 of the 2019 cup and narrowly lost 2:1 in February of last year. The history is still too recent to see Leverkusen as a fear or favorite opponent
Leverkusen must show a reaction
The visitors had actually intended to arrive with a proudly swollen chest after reaching the cup final, but no way: They actually went down 2:1 at Arminia Bielefeld, and deserved this defeat!
The third division team celebrated the sensation, Bayer only had slightly more possession and only managed four real shots on goal. So now the issue of defending the cup is out of the way.
There is still a chance of winning the league title, so Friday’s match between Bayern and Augsburg is also very important for my Leverkusen betting tip. If Munich lose, the Werkself will certainly be even more motivated in the Voith Arena.
The gap is six points ahead of the 28th matchday, which can theoretically still be turned around. For the first time since the start of 2025, the reigning Bundesliga champions are aiming to make it three wins in a row.
The 2-0 defeat to Bremen was followed by a last-minute 4-3 win over Stuttgart and then 3-1 against Bochum. With six white vests, the defense does not stand out too positively, Leverkusen has played three times to zero away from home.
For the first time this season, Leverkusen have failed to lead at the break three times in a row. What’s more, they have conceded goals in the first half in four games.
So if you want to place a bet here and say that FCH will score a goal in the first 45 minutes for this very reason, you can pick up odds of 2.85 at Betano. Leverkusen have also conceded more than one goal in three of their last four competitive matches.
On the other hand, Leverkusen are also unbeaten in 30 away games in the Bundesliga. The record is 33 games (Bayern between 2012 and 2014), so not much is missing.
My Heidenheim Leverkusen tip:
What does the DFB Cup exit do to Bayer Leverkusen now? The performance in Bielefeld was hard to explain, the defeat well deserved. In the Bundesliga, the most recent performances weren’t great either, and they also had to fight against Bochum.
With Heidenheim, they now face an opponent who has gained new confidence. Two wins in a row, unbeaten in three games – that’s exactly the kind of run the team needed to gain courage in the promotion battle.
FCH have scored in all of their previous encounters with Leverkusen. As the visitors’ defense is anything but solid, I have decided to use the following classic:
Both teams score!
