SC Paderborn has extended defender Marcel Hoffmeier’s contract on a long-term basis, the second division club officially announced on Friday morning. The 26-year-old started in each of the first four games of the season for the team currently fourth in the table, but suffered a cruciate ligament tear in his right knee in the away game in Nuremberg on matchday 4 and will be out of action for the coming months. “Hoffi is a very important player in our team and a role model for our fans. We are confident that he will be available to us again at his usual high level of performance once he has recovered from his injury,” said sporting director Sebastian Lange in a club statement. Hoffmeier has been under contract in Paderborn since summer 2022 and has played 89 second division games (2 goals) for the club since then.
